Focus on the BoC this week, the pair is likely to extend the rally if the BoC will show any sign of dovish tone.

USD/CAD did rally above 1.2600 as I thought it would. The pair remains very bullish and I wouldn't be surprised if it continues moving north to the last local high at 1.2777.

USD/CAD appears capped at current level. Above 1.2670 bulls will take over, right now pair is in bearish territory.

there may be a surprise rate hike tomorrow and I think this pair could go to 1.23

It would be highly unusual to raise interest rates with GDP at zero growth.

Canadian inflation grew compared to last year albeit just below expectations. It won't be too unreasonable for BoC to choose to raise interest rates on that fact alone despite recent sluggish economic readings. Additionally, job growth still persists. Still, it's also reasonable for BoC to have a wait-and-see approach and hold interest rates for this month. Basically, it can go either way.

It's not about economic readings at this point.

It's all overshadowed by the upcoming tax reform. The strengthening of the US dollar in the past few weeks hinged on the tax reform passing, so basically the market is attempting to price it in.

If it doesn't go anywhere, there's gonna be a huge whipsaw to the downside - continuing the long-term trend to the downside. The markets can be stubbornly cyclical even the fundamentals do not support it.

This is not to say the US dollar will start weakening right now. It could be next month or next year. The negotiations for the tax reform is still in flux.

Still doesn't change the fact BoC may give us a surprise interest rate hike. It doesn't compare Canadian readings with that of the USA in its determinations.
