Does anyone have a way to do this?

Spent a few hours googling it and found a few methods but none seem to work anymore/didn't work in the first place.

I just wanna take some prices of something my broker doesn't provide and have them accessible in an offline chart. I'll update them myself daily.

Regards,
Scott

MT4 allows the importing of CSV data in the History Center. It is a manual process, but you indicated that getting the data from the broker was also manual. There are threads in this forum about offline charts that should give you insight into how to manipulate history files.

When I select the csv file in history centre, even if I have the data in the correct format (day, time, open, high, low, close, vol) it won't show up anything.

I go to history centre, click 'import', select the csv file and just nothing shows up.

The csv file is a yahoo finance download of GOOG historical data.

You haven't provided enough details for somebody to help.

Importing data in the History Center is possible. There must be something wrong. Did you check the Journal for errors? If no errors, perhaps you could post the file for somebody else to try.

I've attached the data below.

I just want this to display on the mt4 chart.

If I open up mt4, click 'tools', then 'history centre', then 'import'. I browse for the csv file below.

Then I click 'okay' and nothing happens.

Right, do not know what I am talking about BUT....

I used a Renko indi that set up data to put into the history
That used *.hst for the file name ... could that be it?
Also it used a TF different from any currently in the history data.

If any of that helps then great, if not then sorry for wasting your time.

it would be ideal to have some kind of function which changes the type of file from csv to hst however I'm not sure thats needed and its probably much more complicated than simply importing the csv file.

format of exported daily E/U:
2005.04.15,00:00,1.28120,1.29420,1.27780,1.29180,66563
2005.04.17,00:00,1.29140,1.29190,1.29050,1.29160,3392

format of your GOOG:
Date,Time,Open,High,Low,Close,Volume
25/11/2011,0:00:00,565.19,574.27,561.33,563,1562400
23/11/2011,0:00:00,575.35,580.25,570.11,570.11,2325800

Maybe the format has to be exactly like the export above...?
Not sure, but GOOG might also have to be in the MarketWatch list.

There are programs available to convert the csv to hst.
I would have to search for a link.

1)
Find the convert program and build the hst file.
Then open it as offline.

= OR =

2) (easiest way)
Reformat the date,
Rename the GOOG file to a Market Watch symbol not used, say XAUUSD1440.csv
Import it
Chart it

I knew there was a catch to importing CSV data but couldn't remember what it was until Kenz's posting. #2 is the way I did it a year and a half ago.

Another alternative is to automate the entire process. I had done something similar for a friend:

The attached script will download the GOOG data file from the Yahoo website and create the "GOOG,D1" history file. Just execute the script when you want the data updates (presumably once a day) and you are done. The whole process takes about 3 seconds.

this is an old thread but i want to mention a product called Mexcel
it is a paid product i have been using for about a month now. it must be the most comprehensive MT4 to Excel link available
it is a bit clunky but overall i am very impressed. it is allowing me to crunch data from any custom indicator and it is accurate and it works. i hope it is ok to endorse a product that you like on FF, i am not sure of the rule. anyway, great stuff, might help you. cheers

Hi,
This is old thread, but since I have query regarding this topic, I shall post it here anyway. Can somebody please help me with following issue.
I am trying to import data from .csv file into MT4. I have file in right format and have followed procedure of importing from History Centre.

Issue: When file (attached) is imported, it takes only few rows from the file and ignores other rows.
Is there any way of fixing this issue? Rows which are imported are shown in below screenshot

Thanks a lot.

Excellent work! I've tried it lately and it works very well. Would there be a way of coding this script into an expert advisor so that it might be able to automatically update the charts to which is attached once a day after markets close or a few hours later? It'd be much more practical especially if one uses it for downloading dozens of securities every and each day...

Thanks ;-)
