Isn't slippage correlated with spread? If so, I've seen a handful of times where spread is very reasonable during even the most volatile market eruptions on news release. Sometimes even less than 5. So, if the spread is let's say 5, then we shouldn't get slipped more than 5 pips, right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Not exactly. Slippage can occur at the entry and exit of a trade. You can get positive slippage (e.g. the trade exit is executed at a better price than the TP price requested). I have yet to see a positive spread

The reason for slippage is that there is no one else on the other side of the trade at the price you want it executed, so it "slips" to the next price where there is a buyer or seller. This does not necessarily mean that the spread has widened.

Of course in the case of news events spreads do widen and slippage does happen, so you do see both happening at the same time.

Reason: NZ is still in the midst of electing a new government and it was very unlikely that the central bank would alter interest rates during this uncertain political environment. In addition, there was no expectation of a change. So for me at least I didn't see the opportunity for a big pip move.

It ended up a 13 pip move after 5 min and as much as 20 pips in the following 5 min. However, it was only a 5+ pip move down in the first minute, which for me would have meant a no-trade in any case.

i think that tomorrow the GBP on Canadian dollars will have more impact that the news on the gbp..

wherever thank u for all the posts, i would like to know what is your strategy on trading news please ? can u share with me how do you trade the news?

i'm trading news since 1 month now and it was my firt profitable month after 1 year and half of blowing accounts and trying to trade with indicators and technicals analysis (now i believe only on fundamentals, technical is bulshitt for me)

so i would like to improve my knowledge on news sir,
