Yes, S&P can be "chunky" especially on a slow day but the % is usually nearly the same so it's just that NQ gives you many more entry/exit points compared to ES. The chart of NQ usually looks smoother because of the additional "ticks".

2 things could happen market shuts down from 5 to 6 when it opens it could gap putting you in hole or way up

Looking @ the futures quotes I just put up, there's about 7 pips premium left in the Sept contract so for example if there's 14 days until that contract expires, then you'll lose .5 pips every day you hold it even if spot price didn't move even 1 pip.

So if you look @ the price of any futures contract & check the days until expiration, check to see how much premium is in the contract relative to forex then divide that by number of days until expiration to know how much in pips you'll lose each day you hold it.

***My opinion is if you're a day-trader that might hold a position overnight, I don't get concerned about swap & premium decay. What's an occasional pip holding overnight when you might be looking @ trying to gain 30-50 pips. Not enough of a concern unless you're scalping for less than 10 pips.

Also if you hold you need full margin in acct day trading only 500 is required

so what is the difference between forex swap vs futures premium decay? seems like you "pay" something for holding positions. maybe the pip fee value might be different

look i'm agreeing that futures is better option.

what forex is selling is low barrier of entry and high ass margin. i can get my $100 and pick a broker with 200+ leverage and hope to win big. Yes it's gambling, yes it's foolish thinking, but that's what it is. and, it IS possible to make it big in forex IF you know what you're doing. i'd call it a POOR MAN'S MARKET. we the poor people come into forex and try to hit it big

futures has the "professionalism" feel to it. it's regulated, pricing is relatively cheaper than forex. BUT, i need bigger deposits and leverage is smaller. but i don't have to deal with broker "tricks". if i'm stopped out, that's because i suck adn i can't complain about chart issues or broker hunting stops..

so yea..i'm mulling over futures right now....

Correct, margin requirements will increase if you hold overnight positions. $500/contact is for daytrading only.

Apologies for butting in here, but you have to be remember with futures contracts you are trading ticks not Pips. Off the top of my head in Forex Futures 2 Ticks equates to 1 Pip and in Futures Indices, 4 Ticks equates to 1 Point. I think normally on Futures Forex, 1 Tick is $6.25 so for every 0.00005 movement you are $6.25 per contract up or down. If you are trading 10 contracts, every 0.00005 movement, will equate to $62.50.

Look @ the list of futures quotes. They all have increasing premium the farther out in time just like options which I also trade but don't want to completely turn this into a mess :-)

If holding overnight I would use forex even with swap fees as I wouldn't trust the overnight liquidity in futures with a strong move. Could have large spreads so poor SL fills.

Trading euro futures are higher margin than e mini nasdaq 1000 to 500

Futures contracts are all over the map as far as $/tick. But the tick size is also quite different in each market.
If you buy 1 contract of ES & 1 of YM, both will have nearly the same $ profit if both markets move 1% even though ES is more than twice the $/tick.

6E=$12.50/tick
6B=$6.25/tick (british pound)
ES=$12.50/tick
YM=$5/tick
NQ=$5/tick
CL=$10/tick
GC=$10/tick

have you thought about it...

i still have an account open with IC Markets, im going to try ECN.. if spread continues to rip me to pieces then that's just my trading... futures appears to be quite expensive for me atm... let me know if you change

what $$$$ are we on ? $250k?

i feel like a total noob all over again learning futures now..

that old feeling of excitement mixed with despair realizing there's much to read..

ps. account is NOT at $250k..i need till around Nov to get where i need to be..$150k minimum. otherwise my wife might leave me...
