This picture shows similarity (blue square areas) and dissimilarity (orange circle areas). We know this by now. ZZ value 100 and Stoch 100.

Now the blue box are areas of interest. Here we find the last leg of the ZZ downward and as expected Stoch is hitting zero once again. My interest is the clues for me to start buying. For this I add a more volatile stoch of 12 as seen in the picture. In the area ZZ and Stoch are bearish, anytime a new ZZ leg appears i expect both stoch 100 and 12 to be at zero and in agreement, similarity is achieved.

Everything is similar until the Stoch 12 is at zero and the other stoch is not there. Most of these occurrences mark the end of the ZZ leg downward. Obviously your stoploss goes to the ZZ leg plus spread.

No. You could use a bigger stoch value which will give you more conservative hints.

Hi Albert,

Again we see things 'Similarly' and yet 'Dissimilarly' (if you'll forgive the pun ).

This is what I look for - seems to work on all tf's

I like the 'Similarly' and yet 'Dissimilarly'. In fact your setup is the best, requires a lot of patience because most of the time they are similar. The higher time frames require even more patiences.
I see the stoch values 240 and 24....woooow 240 stoch on 1hr TF may take a very long time to setup. What is the ZZ value. Cheers....

My inclination is always to view dissimilarity zones as prices to revisit at some point so if I see them I'll mark them and, when there seems to be a move towards them, use them as a target.

I don't do much manual trading these days but your recent posts made me have a look and this setup seemed to be sitting up and begging. When I used to trade this way, I was often guilty of anticipating the return too early and so had to endure DD before it finally returned. If I started to trade it seriously again, I'd use additional pointers to get me in at higher probability entries (like SD levels). In fact I'd probably wait until you spotted an entry LOL.

I use the long and short stoch settings because I use similar settings in an EA (not exactly the same settings) that has proved profitable though it doesn't use dissimilarity.

However, I wouldn't use these on htf's - takes far too long to return to diss zones.

You have stirred my interest again so I may have to take another look

Al, i dont find the blue box (price and stoch) being similar. Am i missing something?

They are similar. we tried to establish a relationship between price (ZZ) and the stoch. Anytime that a new ZZ leg was formed upwards, stoch must be at 100.

However we noticed the dissimilarity when stoch was at 100 and price did not go higher ( no new ZZ leg was formed). this was shown by the circled areas.

I've been playing around to try to determine whether or not there is a difference when the stoch is at an extreme (100/zero) and the zigzag isn't (no new HH/LL) to when the zigzag is at an extreme and the stoch isn't.

To try to make the results and the chart clearer, I've used pure HH and LL's rather than the zigzag indicator since they do not repaint. They show however where the zigzag would have made new end points.

I've used 60 as the lookback period for both the stoch and the HH/LL's but there's no significance in my choosing that.

You can make your own deductions as to whether they could be significant or not.

Interesting indi. Shows the mismatches clearly. Thanks for sharing. Is there an indi that shows the small pale blue and salmon daimonds

Here it is, just a simple HH/LL indicator.

The most interesting thing that has come out of this so far for me is that a Major H/L will always be on either a 'naked' H/L or on a DissHLnoStoch, never on a DissStochnoHL. Probably obvious but how this is used is another brain teaser as it would be dangerous to assume every DissStochnoHL is going to lead quickly to a new HH/LL, especially if it comes just after a recent HH/LL.
