Follow the Candles

From first look it does not seem like there is anything incorrect with the settings, did anything print in the logs? Personally I have not had this error so I am relying on you to help if/when it happens again.

If the VB does not reach the trigger within the set time it will print a message saying that the VB did not trigger and the VB was closed. Once that happens the EA stops the VB and and the pip count you see in vProfit column and VirtualBasket Profit will stop counting.

The next time if it does happen please show the prints and confirm if the vProfit pip count is still active after the VB is supposed to have closed.

It is unfortunate that with over 350 downloads there is not much feedback on results, or having any bugs. Not getting reports of having bugs is of course a good thing, but no feedback on results is disappointing, but I guess is to be expected from a public forum where the majority are only taking and not giving.

What people don't realize that there is power in numbers and the more that participate and forward test the faster we will find the best set to be profitable with this strategy together.

I'll keep an eye out for it - i didn't find anything in the logs. I turned it off for now, but will load it back on my vps

I'm curious to see how the basket will perform after tokyo open and london close - i'm hopeful there will be slow moving winning baskets at that time.

Please replace V1.9 for this new version 1.91!

Fixed a small bug with the VB so now the valid pairs and their pip count in the vProfit should match with the VirtualBasket Profit.

As always if you guys noticed anything weird or picked up any bugs please give your feedback.

So the previous version had 394 downloads with virtually no feedback, so in light of this it appears to me that people are not using the EA so I guess then I will stop further development and posting here and just keep it to myself for my personal trading. Cheers.

hi I found this to be great indicator but i cant install it on my mt4.
I install it as I install other indicators and then I drag and drop from indicator list in mt4 the options comes but indicator is not showing. whats wrong please help.

1. Thank you for your excellent idea, for your outstanding work developing the EA and for generous sharing & support.
Very impressive stuff.
2. I just found this thread a few days ago while searching for indicators and EAs to use in a strategy I'm trying.
I have been reading all pages from the beginning and catching up with results from you, Blam and a few others.
3. I think there is a way to use FollowTheCandles EA to make a much larger return with same or lower risk.
In post #861 you said " the daily set was extremely profitable".
This idea could multiply that Daily return by X2, X3, X4, X5 or more.
The suggestion is:
For Daily settings, once a basket is opened, the EA rechecks trend direction every X minutes (e,g, M5, M15, M30, etc.)
and opens an additional, new basket with the same set up. If one or two of the pairs from the original basket has changed and don't
get opened in the new basket the EA will only be adding pairs that are still trending.

With the current version of the EA, for example, to trade 3 hours NY open, we can set up 12 separate EAs with same setup, but with
start times every 15 minutes 14:00, 14:15, 14:30, 14:45, 15:00. 15:15 ...
When the EA finds a trend and opens a basket it should open additional baskets in the same direction for a limited time.
Riding the sort-term, profitable trend, and limiting risk exposure from longer term fluctuations.

A question, which there may not yet be an answer to:
To avoid having to open 12 separate EAs;
After the EA has opened a basket, can the Start Time be manually changed to a later Start Time so the same EA will open, and manage, new baskets at the new, later time?

My plan is to try this approach this week and report back.

Results for first day's test.
Still learning how the various setup parameters work so not strictly by the set-and-forget rules.

Had 9 EAs running, to trade NY open. Each EA with different Start Times: 13:00, 13:15, 13:30, 13:45, 15:00, 15:15, 15:30, 15:45, 16:00
The 1st 3 had 0.5 Lot Size. way too large, but exciting to watch.
The rest had 0.05 Lot Size which were more appropriate for so many trades open at the same time.
The TP was set at 10% for the 1st 3 which as too large. They easily hit 3% before sliding back down.
So TPs were reset to 2.5, 2.0, 1.5, 1.0, 0.5, 0.2 etc. Which means all baskets hit TP.

Will run again tomorrow.

As part of experimenting with the EA, I tried changing parameters of an EA that had already opened trades.
Changed the start time ahead by 5 minutes and the EA opened new trades and managed them with the same magic number, adding to the basket totals.
Changed the lot sizes and new trades opened with new lot sizes.
Changed the TP % and EAs adjusted for the new values.
All this on the fly after trades were opened.

This is a very robust, flexible EA.
It looks like it can be adapted for trading long-term, intermediate-term and scalping.

Maybe it was discussed already, sorry.
I test daily set M15,30,H,4H with the 9:15 open candle and 22:45 close candle,
which are the first candle of LO and the last one of NY (in my GMT+2)

My results for 09/22/2020.
There were a lot of open trades at one time (approximately 170) and the EA managed them correctly. Great job.

Two issues today:
1. Most of large loss is because I forgot to correct (lower) the lot size for the first 2 early baskets.
2. $473 of the lost is from another experiment with ultra short-term scalping.
Not a total loss because I learned more about the excellent EA.

Results for today 09/23/2020.
Set up two groups of baskets.
First group of 4 baskets 8:00 am to 9:00 am broker time around London open.
Second group of 5 baskets 15:00 to 16:00 broker time around New York open.
Starting baskets around 15:30 seems to give the best results.

The London, first group did not do well.
The New York, second group did better but not well enough to off-set the loss from group 1.


I do like the flexibility of the EA.
Will run again tomorrow.

With surgery. The expert is frozen. Need a reset button. Reinstallation of the advisor in the theremin helps.
