Hi,

The trade definitely went in my direction - again evidence that the method is sound. But price didn't have quite the force to go the distance. Fortunately I had moved my stoploss one pip above my stoploss when price had passed the 50% level so at least I'm one pip richer. And I'll take that over a loss any day!

Cheers,
pipShine

Do you think it is worth watching as a 4-hour trade? I mean assuming that it still has D1 agreement. If the H4 gives a signal is it worth going down to H1 for the entry? Or is this strictly an M15 strategy?

i use it as mtf. before entry, it's good to watch from d1 downwards to see the medium trend, though not necessary if you are only trading intraday.
or check a higher time frame before entry like d1/h4 combination, h4/h1 combination, h1/m15 combination, m15/m5 combination.
which means htf set up, wait for retracement entry in ltf.
the method shown in this thread is for breakout entry.
you see, a breakout entry in ltf could be a retracement entry in htf.

yep, thats what i do too.. i check at D1 chart for important levels even H1 and H4, i see the main trend and analyze the DXY and then decide if it worth
to take the trade.

So for a retracement entry we don't enter when price crosses the breakout level on the htf but wait for price to re-test the level then take the trade on the ltf if price continues in the direction of the breakout.

So for a breakout entry we DO enter when price crosses the breakout level on the htf but set our stoploss and otherwise manage the trade on the ltf and hope that it is not a false breakout - hence the importance of confirmation from the htf(s).

Which would be the best scenario as it probably isn't a false breakout because it has already retested the breakout level.

Am I catching what you are saying?

maybe would be clearer with another illustration.

on a trading time frame m15, there is a breakout buy entry set up by cci. the resistance is 15 pips above and you are comfortable with it and take the trade to take profit at resistance.
if you are not comfortable taking the trade, you might want to wait for the retracement and switch to m1 for a breakout buy entry set up by m1 cci. no change in entry method in all time frames.

what i am saying is that there is another option available and keeping to the rule as well whether in m15 or m1. it is not necessary better to do this.
however if the trend is strong enough, the m1 entry may be worse off than the m15 entry.

Hi,

I'm looking at a set-up here that I think might be promising. On the D1 chart UsdCad is coming down from a double top and appears to be testing the 1.3300 level. If it does break through then it has 100 pips before it reaches the lower trendline at 1.3200 - which could be considerable if the trade is entered on a lower time frame with a small stoploss. Any comments?

And the NFP is just around the corner so if something doesn't happen soon I'll probably wait until Monday.

I'll be keeping an eye on this...

Cheers,
pipShine

tip.............
as you would have already known, this thread shows breakout as entry.
for your knowledge and information, there is another way of using cci 14 which is a one off thing shown now and not for further discussion.
the other way is using the so called overbought/oversold at cci +/- 100 for retracement entry.
it is to be used only after an impulse wave, which in the chart below was the breakout entry.
retracement entry (yellow box) when cci has gone up +100 and at times +200 and then come down under +100.
