DislikedLet me ask a serious trend trading question . 80 % of trend starts become ranges , forex rarely trend , 80 % of the time forex trend traders lose, they make profit 20 % of the time. Old saying trends are visible in hindsight, so without giving more captain hindsight charts, what conditions do you use in a system to avoid failed trends and fakeys. My simple question is what system rules should I include in an EA or system?Ignored

Disliked{quote} Trend followers don't try to avoid failed trends or false breakouts. You can't know beforehand if a trade is a real or false breakout. We just take the trade using sound money management and know that you may get a few failed trends but just one successful trend will more than make up for all the failed trends and take you to new equity highs. The hard part is having the patience to wait for these trades and the mental discipline to trade them when they present themselves.Ignored
Disliked{quote} I don't agree... Any fundamental change or event being it politic, economic or whatsoever resulting in the importants actors (funds, institutions) agreeing and starting moving their positions accordingly will be obviously reflected and visible in the chart.Ignored
DislikedHere is a chart showing you , buy the time you see a trend it is reversing.Trends are only visible in hindsight.Michael Covel only sells the trend trading dream. Great chart of failed trends {image}Ignored
Disliked{quote} Obviously it will be reflected in the chart but at what point in the chart do you realise this is a developing trend. The question was how do you know when a trend is starting and not just some short term reaction to something unrelated. No chart in the world with any combination of flashing light indicator or measurement tool will tell you the information you need to know. This is why trend traders rely of things like moving averages and accept that they wont catch the start or the end of the moves.Ignored
Disliked{quote} If you read me carefully, I just said so, you can never know, you just go on a breakout and see, the precedent chart shows it very well and of course you cannot catch all the move, that's for sure.Ignored
Disliked{quote} Thank gee! I will use this hindsight education.I love hindsight charts trading.Ignored
Disliked{quote} You disagreed with me when i said you can know and now you are reiterating that you can't know. The question wasn't about catching a trend but knowing which one is fake. A technical trend trader like yourself have to take every setup and this is reflected in your 34% win rate on your trade explorer. There is nothing wrong with a low win rate if you can hit home runs on longer trends if that is what interests you. What i am trying to convey is you can know when it is genuine and use that information to filter out the losers which will increase...Ignored
Disliked{quote} A ha, you becoming sarcastic No problem mate, here's my explorer which by the way is public so you can see that it's not only hindsight education but also actual trading... {image}Ignored
Disliked{quote} lulz joke you see any profits from trends have been wiped out on far right, I need a solution for choppy trends. {image}Ignored
Disliked{quote} If price has not made a higher high than the previous high , do no buy trend. If price has not made a lower low than the previous low , do no sell trend. ?Ignored
