Dollar Falls Against Euro, Yen After Iran Test-Fires Missile

By Kosuke Goto and Stanley White

July 9 (Bloomberg) -- The dollar declined against the yen and euro after Iran's state television said the nation test- fired a long-range missile capable of reaching Israel.

The yen and the Swiss franc strengthened on speculation the missile test signals that international political tensions will keep escalating, spurring investors to buy assets in nations that are perceived as safer.

"The news of Iran's missile launch is causing the dollar to fall,'' said Masahiro Sato, joint general manager of the treasury division at Mizuho Trust & Banking Co. in Tokyo. "It's also boosting the Swiss franc in a flight to safety. It's difficult to judge Iran's intentions regarding its nuclear capabilities, and that is a significant geopolitical risk.''

The dollar fell to 107.05 yen as of 2:25 p.m. in Tokyo from 107.50 yen late in New York yesterday. It also weakened to $1.5716 versus the euro compared with $1.5670 yesterday.

The dollar may decline to 106.70 yen today, Sato said. Iran test-fired successfully the Shahab 3 missile with a 2,000-kilometer (1,240-mile) range and a one-ton weight at 8 a.m. local time today,'' the Al-Alam television channel said in a report on its Web site.

"In this holiday-thinned market period, geopolitical news like Iran's test firing will see safe-haven currencies like the yen benefit,'' said Robert Rennie, chief currency strategist based in Sydney at Westpac Banking Corp., Australia's fourth- biggest lender.

Japan's currency climbed to 168.24 versus the euro from 168.45 in New York yesterday. The Swiss franc advanced to 1.0282 versus the dollar from 1.0337.

Mr. Dove,

I have to hand it to you! At times, it seems you like you are looking into a magic ball! As a struggling trader, I'm trying to to reach a level of knowledge to hopefully get to where you are....making money on a regular basis!

I've been reading as much as I can on your posts to figure out your methods.

It would help and if you are able to...could you give an brief explanation of HOW you arrived at the trades you took tonight? Why U/J down when you've seemingly been bullish on this market for a long time? Why E/U up? I don't trade E/J yet as I don't have the stomach for it's swings but why down?

Forgive my ignorance!

Is there a link I'm missing to a post or posts that summarizes your methods? I know you recently mentioned a set of indicators you use in Accucharts but are there equivalents in MT4 I could use?

TIA!

Hello Trader,
Let me start by saying I have been there also as a struggling trader, and is nothing to be ashamed of because we all have been there, one time or another..... To reach any level in this market is done so by experience only.... The experience comes from either books or other traders, or as in my experience, from my Lord above..... I find that most traders make their mistake by learning only one system and not looking at other possibilities..... There would be traders on this forum might tell you that I trade only indicators...... But, that is how little they know..... I have learned many ways of reading charts besides indicators....... I have learned, that even though history does not repeat itself, it will give you knowledge of the momentum and that alone is more important than indicators or even fundamentals....... For right now I couldn't even begin to give you knowledge for the simple reason it comes with time and desire..... Hang in there though and I will do my best as time moves on......

The trades I took tonight is because of my indicators for one and the momentum for another...... It was a touch and go in the beginning because of the consolidation but once I seen the movement of the momentum I was in it.......

The E/J was playing one of it's games that it does every once in awhile....... This pair was the cause of the consolidation and came one pip short of the Pivot Point, turn, and now is above its central..... And it may sit there until the U/J decides to join it.......

I am short @ 107.45, take profit at 107.28 - midpoint between the daily and central.
Also have a blind long entry at the PP (107.08 + 2pips), with take profit also at midpoint
Ignored
I took the same trade, just that i had the TP at PP. Was wondering why you
took the midpoint for your TP?

Dove i think you mentioned this trip betwen central and daily, as i understood it, it happens at ranging days right?

It usually happens when ever you got about a 20 pip spread or more between the two..... Good practice to have that marked on your charts because it can and most likely will bounce back the other way as it did so tonight...... As for myself I shouldn't be trading other currencies but only one at time....... For the simple reason, takes away the focus.......
