Had your MT4 already updated to 625 before the windows update?
Maybe it is trying to update but being blocked by your anti-virus or something?
Have you installed MT4 in Program files, that can cause a lot of problems.

Your mt4 should be in Program Files (x86) not Program Files.

I have not had any problems with Windows updates, so it is something local to you, or a broken connection with your broker.

If you can download mt4 from your broker, save it to some file on your computer and install it from the saved exe file. Be sure to put it in the (x86) folder.

If you fail to get updates to mt4, then you need to change your UAC temporarily. To do this click Start and then at the bottom of the menu you will see a flashing bar in the Search programs and files box. Type UAC and click Enter. Then move the UAC to the lowest setting. This might cause you to have to restart to accept it. So, restart and then open mt4 and it should update. Once the update is complete, you need to go back to UAC and change the setting back to something secure, restart your computer again and the mt4 should work fine.

If it is still not working, then open Programs and Files from your control panel and Uninstall Metatrader. Don't worry, you have the exe file already. HOWEVER, be sure to save any custom indicators and templates to some different folder on your computer. I have a C:/Forex folder where I store all my indicators, templates, and literature. This way if mt4 crashes or corrupts, I still have all my data. Also because my trading method works and is quite valuable and on several other computers, I also save all my pertinent data to a flash drive that I carry with me, especially when I leave my house, in case someone steals my computers. I also have my prime method and indicators stored away from my house, so I can always resume business should someone steal anything Maybe you are not at that level yet, but equipment can be replaced. I would hate to have to recode my indicators though

After you Uninstall, then load the exe file again and be sure to put it in Program Files (x86). Then check again for update 625 and change the UAC again if needed.

Sounds like a pain, but when I had vista I had to load the newest mt4 versions in addition to the old one, lol. Once I had 4 copies of mt4 just to keep it running on the newest version. It is not like that for Windows 7

Read this on the MT4 forum.

I also noticed this. A lot of you traders reported that they can't start terminal.exe anymore from one day to another. Starting it makes it pop up for a second and then closes it again. I keep reading this over and over here. Re-installing it or installing it over won't help. The solution is in the config directory. Under some circumstances terminal.exe writes a null byte file called "version.ini" or something. This file has a lenght of 0 bytes. So if you run into this behavior again, then please DELETE this file. Terminal.exe will start normally again.
Trade what you see not what you hope

Sorry, I understood nothing except that your PC thinks that Win95 installed on it.

I am not sure if it works, but if I were you I would try the following steps:

1.) create new directory c:\myMt4 (or something else)
2.) Copy the entire c:\programdata\fxpro folder to c:\myMt4
3.) create one .bat-file (notepad, insert start "" terminal.exe /portable and save as "~terminal.bat" in the c:\myMt4\fxpro\-folder
4.) doubleclick the ~terminal.bat and see if mt4 starts and works in portable mode

or, in short words: I assume that the problem is located in the installation folder. I would not install programs (like mt4) in c:\programdata / c:\programs x86 / c:\programs ...
PM me with coding requests and I'll probably put you on my ignore list

Could you look for a clue in the ...MT4\Logs files and search for lines having "LiveUpdate" and "error" if any? Lately, the update attempts to replace the terminal.exe file, even if still open.

The optimal option is to reinstall the operating system (IMO). If you have multiple partitions, Install a second OS on a different partition, then install MT. I would have done it this way. If your operating system has created a restore point, try to roll back to a previous state.
