I pulled a considerable sum of money out of a deposit, 2 months before they went bust.
I was getting greedy with the interest they offered, and read of their financial difficulties, in financial press.
The Icelandic government refused to bail out the banks (or to put it correctly, couldn't afford to).
So any depositors, who had deposits in excess of UK government guarantees, lost their money.
