I use Ninja Trader as my charting software, I do not know if the ADX is available in MT4. Yes, the bars are apart of the indicator.

The bars are very usefull, you want to see each bar progressivly longer than the previous. When the bars start becoming smaller than the previous and price is still moving, it gives you a heads up that the current price move may be ending.
there you go Ollie that is they way you do it. try the lower tf's get you in trades faster...

Thank you for the generous offer.

I am sure james24 will provide you with his expert advise in due course. But here is -- I am sorry I cannot code MQL -- what I think would make a good EA:

TRIGGERS
· Calculate Length 15, Deviation 1.5, Money Risk 1 per BBands_Stop_v1.mq4;
· Also calculate Length 20, Deviation 2.0, Money Risk 1 per BBands_Stop_v2.mq4.


ENTRIES and EXITS
1. Go LONG half position when bar close crosses over and closes above BBands_Stop_v2
2. If still LONG add quarter position if subsequently bar close crosses over and closes above BBands_Stop_v1
3. If still LONG add another quarter position if subsequently there is another bar close crosses over and closes above BBands_Stop_v1
4. Now we have full position, do not add any more LONG
5. Close the FULL POSITION when bar close crosses under and closes below BBands_Stop_v2
6. Continue with SHORT in accordance with 1 to 5 above.


EXTRA
· The EA should have the ability to know if LONG, SHORT, or FLAT by checking for, and retrieve, existing order info before initiating any order in case MT4 or your computer crashes, or a position is closed manually.

good way to build a position.
if bad trade only lose a little bit, if good trade make a lot....
5 min charts and up may be better than 1 min.. could get chewed up pretty bad with spread fees on 1 min.

I am a regular follower of this forum.

I have created my first indicator based on Bollinger Band

Sorry I cannot start a new thread because I am a new member. Please have a look and let me know your opinion.

There is a bug in this indicator which shows up from the current bar. It works correct on the history (previous) bars already on the chart. Can you please help me rectify it.

You can use the BB as the filter or as a confirmation to hold the trade since typically the Gann is getting you in earlier. A simple 5min candle chart with a 50sma is highly recommend to give you price direction, take sells when price is 16+ pips below the 50sma 5imn and take buys when price is +16 above the 50sma 5min. Interesting strategy, just been looking at 15 tick EU charts and comparing with M5 50SMA direction and there is definitely some pips to be made. I installed the TickCharts indicator in MT4 which allows you to pick number of ticks per bar. You then open an offline chart to see the tick bars, the time scale is irrelevant and is the number of ticks since you started logging which in MT4 equates to jan 1970.

I have a BBStop indicator with audio alert if anyone wants it.
I have taken the liberty of writing an EA for this. I have followed my normal practice of putting it in a dedicated thread so that this one does not become cluttered by automation discussions.

Nice one Steve, i have also written one but i am testing it out with a slightly different strategy. Based on posts by JamesR24 i have created an EA that runs on M5 chart and uses Gann HiLo indicator instead of BB Stop, though i might change back based on performance! It uses a 16 pip buffer on EU and checks for MA direction and Gann Stop direction. If MA down and Gann Stop down trend and outside MA level 16 pip it adds a sell trade. The reverse for Long trades.

I am testing it to make sure it is doing what it should before posting, i have alsredy found a typo that stopped it trading (forgot to multiply the 16pip buffer by Point before adding to MaVal thus no trades were every made!! )

I found this after reading JamesR24's posts and was planning to creat an EA based on his method. The tick chart generator can be found here.

A good article on this, posted earlier on can be found here.

I think adding the CBI module might help though for the few trades i have watched. The tick charts seem very promising, the problem is my PC is running really slow and so development is not as quick as usual.

I'll keep you posted.

Here is a screenshot of current progress. I had had settings too tight for SL/BE and so it made a few small losing trades this morning, needs some more testing.

Red/Blue lines are Gann HiLo Indy and DodgerBlue/Magenta lines are BBands_Stop_v2 Indy. MA is 50SMA with -160/160 levels added.

Here's the alert version of the BBStop. It's useful if you trade it on the M5 or higher as it will make a sound when it flips. Of course it sounds on any time frame but if you trade the 1M you should be sitting at your charts most of the time anyway hehe
