I use forexvps. They claim 99.9% uptime. Reasonable value for the money. I have had a couple of issues where server rebooted during trading hours but was not that big a deal because it auto restarts the mt4.

If any one know a vps provider that provides a shadow server or something similar so that if the main one goes down, mt4 will carry on running on the other that might be useful.

There are some brokers that provide free vps if you trade with them.
I am usually Wrong

As I know, if yo have bad internet, then VPS will surelly help you. Well, at least you can run your expert to trade and just switch off your PC (if you are brave (or smart) enough for it).

thanks for the response guys. I am wondering if there are also any good VPS out there that will give you the ability to install your own programs and have very good uptime. I suspect a forex vps they would already know how critical it is to have up their machines. however, a good vps provider will also know that it is critical for their customers as some of them might have businesses running on them.

not only do our VM's give you full administrator access to install what you want, we don't force a reboot on you for updates - you instead install updates at a time best for you.

In some companies you are not allowed to install anything, just to use what is already installed there

I've only used two VPS providers for running MT4:

1) Ultrahosting.com - terrible, have to contact support every other week which tells you everything you need to know.

2) VPSLand.com - never had to contact support, no problems, highly recommended. 99.9% uptime.

You may know this already but when running MT4 on a VPS you need to make sure that MT4 restarts after a reboot. This is not simply a matter of placing shortcuts in your "startup" folder, as this will only restart MT4 after you login to the VPS, so if it reboots and you don't login for 10 hours, then you're exposed for 10 hours while your EA isn't running...

I'd also recommend VPS uptime monitoring - personally I use a program that connects to a PHP script every minute and sends an SMS if the last connection was over 2 minutes ago.

All of our Trader's VPS's include CNS Autoboot, which does exactly this and much more.

CNS Autoboot will start designated applications without any user action after a Windows reboot. Autoboot monitors the health of the operating system (OS) and each configured application. It will take action when it detects an application or OS hang, OS reboot, OS resource depletion, high sustained CPU or RAM usage, or if user defined key words are found in a log file. Autoboot will monitor up to two log files for each configured application. Available actions are: send email, restart application, stop application and/or restart computer or VPS. Autoboot can be configured to delete an application’s log files daily or when disk space falls below a user defined threshold.

Hi there I use http://www.engineered-solutions.us/VpsModelsFees.html

I have used a few of them vps Land and Commercial Network Services. Both were stable enough but i found the above better value and lot better uptime and customer service. They even moved my VPS to london for me to nearer my broker.

Cheers Russ

I suppose that is one way to trade manually, in the sense that vps can retain settings and still leave the desktop exactly as you left it if you set it up correctly. usually VPS give you the added benefit of implementing automation, mainly EAs. I've streamed video of metatrader platform with a "hack" i developed, which would have been difficult to do from a home internet connection without someone monitoring the setup.

edit: Not sure how pocketCloud is now, but I used Remote RDP and upgraded for like $10 or so for the full version. Honestly though, i recommend a dual core laptop if you are serious about trading. It would be very difficult to manually trade with a touch-screen interface beyond simple entry/exit, in which case you would use the mt4 for android. i suppose with enough practice, and if you keep the terminal window small, it would work. the Galaxy Note is just big enough to maneuvar around without too much crowdedness. I think it comes with a touch pen also. I used a Galaxy Ace (Cooper); i wouldn't trade from it manually, but it works as a backup if i need to access the VPS and the laptop is unavailable.

Wish I'd read your post 8 days ago.
I gave Ultrahosting my C Card details a week ago and have heard nothing.
Trying to contact them via their site just gives me an error message.

Are they out of bizzness - should I contact my bank ??

Read on the net they were good ...... So took a deep breath and signed up
( was going to be first time VPS user - as wanted to run MT4 24 / 5 )
Not off to a very good start now am I !!

Thanks,
J Mack
