I am paper trading a simple morning breakout grid trading strategy since 1st of november which looks very promising and which would be easy (?) to trade with an EA (if someone has some coding skills)...

I paper trade this because I have no time to trade that manually because of my day job ...

It has nothing in common with TMS, so I will not write more about it here ...

I scalp in a way, but it's hard to put my words on an EA.
First of all, I define a fundamental mid-term sentiment (and/or short-term).. and market is supposed to go on the right way at the London session.. so, if the Asian session "counter-trends" my mid or short term idea.. then it would be perfect to jump in at 03:15 candle open for 30,40,50 or more pips.. it all depends on how strong I think the sentiment is going to be.

Below is a picture of the last two possible days (wednesday and thursday), since friday tends to be crazy.

I'm just sharing

EDIT: There are 2 vertical lines per day, the first one is the Asian close and the Second is the London open.

Okay.. it looks nice, but take my word as an advice....
Breakout trading works the best on strong risk aversion/appetite days, so when market ranges it should be like commiting suicide.

I don't know which TF you are using, so that could make my last statement a fake one. But if you mainly focus on higher TFs it would outperform for a while and then probably stop giving the same results.

There are some breakout strategies threads here in FF.

1 is Simple London Breakout which tries to trade every single breakout http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=247220
2 is Stairstep breakout tradin which is practically trading accumulation and breakout. (I don't have the link in this moment).

But I think it would be nice if you post the way you trade the breakout, post your idea with strict rules, some charts, possible settings and I think seller9 will help you, since he's looking for a scalping method.

As far as your ideas on scalping, I've already done something similar since i started my work with TMS_v19 and 20

So far, things are going well, although I'm mainly using 5m TF. 1min was ok, but combining that with PA and hhll exits, i got entirely too many trades. 5M seems to be working pretty well. I'm using BE so 80% of my trades seem to be pretty decent, taking 10-20 pips every 4 trades or so, with all of the potential losses closing at 1 pip profit.

One problem I'm having however is XAUUSD. I can't seem to get the EA working with trailing stops. I see the alert that it's sending, then it keeps getting the error invalid stops. I was wondering if it was something to do with my settings? I have no idea. I also thought, maybe because the pips read differently than 4 and 5 decimal pairs.. no?

Ultimately I need help with the trailing stop settings. If I set true to Jumping stop, BE, and the 2 trailing stops, will they all still work, or should I set one kind of trailing stop and set everything else to false?

There's about 2-3 different trailing stop sections, 1 BE section (with other BE sections inside jumping stop settings and other Trailing stop settings)

What do I do here, and how can I get it to work for XAUUSD?!?

That EA is hard-coded to work on M15, M5 and M1 confirmations, I recomend you to forget about that one , there is a V2 here in the thread, you might want to try it.

This is a bit harder to explain.. and there are major factors.
1, is the Super Commite decision
2, is the EZ situation.. if they decide to print Euros, this will be negative for the currency. But if they don't, they will have to continue to get deeper in debt.

Good morning OM,
(forex trading meets ham radio )

since 1st of November 2011 I use this strategy:

Place 6 pending orders:
one buy at 15 pips above the actual price
another buy at 30 pips above the actual price
the 3rd buy at 45 pips above the actual price.
Take profit for all 3 pending buy orders is 60 pips above the actual price, stop loss is 60 pips below the actual price.

one sell at 15 pips below the actual price
another sell at 30 pips below the actual price
the 3rd sell at 45 pips below the actual price.
Take profit for all 3 pending sell orders is 60 pips below the actual price, stop loss is 60 pips above the actual price.

It should look like this:

so you see, every 15 pips above and below our actual price, we have a line where some trading action will be executed.

Trading procedure:

When price enters long1 pending order, we add more sell pending orders: one at short1, one at short2 and one more at short3.
When price enters long2 pending order, we add again one more short1, one more short2 and one more short3 pending order.
When price enters long3 pending order, we add once more another short1, one more short2 and one more short3 pending order.

When price arrives at the TP long price, all orders are closed and all pending orders are deleted.

Similar procedure if price is going south.
When price enters short1 pending order, we add more buy pending orders at long1, long2 and long3 level.
When price enters short2 pending order, we add again one more buy pending order at long1, long2 and long3 level.
... and so on ...

Every time, when price triggers a new pending order, we add 3 more pending orders at the opposite side. Again and again until one take profit level is reached.

Lot size: as small as possible because there could be 20 or more trades open at the same time if price is swinging around the middle line.

The time of starting this strategy is most important!

For EURUSD start this at 8:00 CET (which is 07:00 GMT, one hour before London opening)
For GBPUSD start this one hour later at 09:00 CET (which is 08:00 GMT, London opening)

Other pairs and times are possible but not tested. All well moving pairs with low spread should work fine if you can set the pending orders close to a time when there is some price action expected.

That was the first chart I put the EA, without any manual to guide.
After numerious trades then I realised the the best chart to monitor the price movement is on M15. You should ask Pbh for his advise, as that EA was designed to his specifications i think.

Interesting day... I also noticed a few things on the EA,

First of all, these are my results:

+111.2 pips for the day.
59 trades, 12 winners, 1 BE and 46 losers.
Pips won = 327, pips lost = 215.8
Average win trade = +27, Average lose trade = 4.6

Not bad too start.

There was a ranging period today, and that's why (I suppose) the EA jumped in so many trades, most of them being losers. Below are a couple of charts attached.

One major problem I noticed by watching at the time things happened, or well, actually, when things didn't happen.

I was looking at a EURCAD possible entry, EURUSD possible entry, but the EA wouldn't jump in... Okay, I checked all of the confirmations, TDI bull, candle closed above both MAs.

I wanted to see how the EA handled this situation, so I allowed it to decide what to do... and it jumped in EURUSD after nine! candles closed (chart attached).

Okay let's look at EURCAD, never jumped in... lost around 30 pips trade opportunity (chart attached).

And I come back from school and look at the AUDUSD chart... I know I got to be here to exactly know what's happening and what the EA is looking at.. but here's no doubt that it missed a perfect trade (chart attached), it jumped in after 18 candles closed.

I go check my settings and nope, I'm not using slope. So... I don't know, what can be done ?

ADD: Best trade of the day= +87.3 pips, worst = -30 pips

There are many factors I may or may not know, that back up a rating downgrade decision.

S&P didn't give the US a rating downgrade because it couldn't afford to reach an agreement to cut 1.2T this time (ha!)
