French presidential elections

no treads found, so i create one...so who will win...any effect on Euro?
sarkozy or royal?, Yes?...i say Sarkozy, but the fight will be close i suppouse, why Sarkozy,...((((well its time for a change in global politics, i say the US and UK will have a Women in charge, one literaly the other non-literaly, to opose those 2 women we (the euro we) need a man)))...., please share views...thx de

the dip in euro some years ago i remmember just that 1 in that time french election was there and it effected and helped the euro to fall against the dollar

well im not expert here, but i do believe that if Sarkozy makes it to the final round of voting it will be good for the euro. he is more of a capitalist than any of the other candidates and that usually bodes well for the economy.

do we have any french members on the board who can provide some insight from the inside??

There was a high turnup for the French elections. Normally both Sarkozy as Royale(socialist) should make it to the second round!

Is it true that this first round is where most of the populous votes for the candidates that are more on the fringe. Then in the next round they get down to who they really want to vote for... I heard this discussion on a radio program the other day and was wondering if this was really the case.

Normally the first round is not very popular with the French voters. Low turnups are very common. If you remember last elections, the extremist Lepin got through to the next round.
In the 2nd round the turnups are higher and people are choosing who the really want (This elections seems more to be about who people DON'T want)

I hope Sarkozy makes it all the way. After what I read about him, his background and skills I personally hold him in the highest regard.
Here in Germany I would know nobody even remotely close to matching someone like him (literate, hostage negotiator, cometlike career, no-nonsense approach, says things bluntly, clearly and loudly...god how much more vigor in that single man than in all of German politics..)

And on topic - I think it will have about as much effect on any FX as a dust mite's fart in outer space has on the earth's hemisphere

1st)Nicolas Sarkozy-30.5%

2nd)Segolene Royal-25.7%

3rd)Francois Bayrou-18.5%

4th)Jean-Marie Le Pen-11.0%

Now Sarkozy and Royal will go forward to a second and final round on May 6th..

Voter turnout was an all-time high at 84.75% of eligible French voters...

Too keep it simple, that means that Sarko wants to make pression on the BCE to adapt the value of the euro (that is too strong for the moment)

During the campaign Sarkozy never stopped telling that the euro was too strong and that we need to do like japan, China and usa by weakening our money.
I would say that Sarkozy's victory should psychologically be weak on a short term basis for euro and strong on a long term because he is the most liberalist.

I read the opinion that since he is a capitalist that it should be good for the Euro, however I read this article somewhere else on this site and to me it indicates that we should see some selloff of the Euro if this is in fact his current view of the Euro:

A weaker euro should be a tool to help European industry, Sarkozy said during a television debate last night.

'Ten centimes of appreciation on the euro is a 1 bln eur deficit for Airbus. We didnt create the euro in order not to make a single plane in Europe,' he said.

He said he would, if elected, ask his finance minister to call a euro group meeting to discuss exchange rate strategy and convince our partners to move forward.

Sarkozy also cited hedge funds as an example of undesirable speculation, criticising these aggressive funds ... that buy up a company, sell it off in pieces, sack 25 per cent of the staff in the meantime, collect 25 pct profit and create zero wealth.'

He added: I don't want a speculative capitalism. I want a capitalism that creates riches."
