Trading FX pairs during a US presidential election

Does anyone remember the mood of the market during 1.5 months before election/ on election day/ and 1.5 months after?

I don't expect everything being the same given so much has changed since then but there is always an uncertainty at the election time because a lot of things get put on hold until after the election. Or similarly some precautions maybe taken before the election in case there is a surprise.

Now, I don't want this thread to get political. I am mainly talking about the behavior of the market. For example, a cat walks differently when it's happy walking along you who is going to fill up the food dish and you can tell that it has no worries and is pretty much happy. Then you see it another time by the window and it is really focused looking out the window and not moving at all. There are more behaviors but I don't specialize in cats.

So, is the market around election time like the cat by the window and can be treated as such or jumping on top of a bird...which I didn't mention before but you welcome to come up with unmentioned behaviors.

There are 3 charts here. Oct, Nov and Dec 2016 just to get a visual but anyone else has better charts for that period or any abnormalities or predictable and expected patterns, please post them. Looks like the $ was strengthening the whole time but still, it stayed within an acceptable range.

Traders expecting a clear winner by midnight EST will likely be in for disappointment; according to a recent Axios/Ipsos poll, only about a third (36%) of US adults expect a winner to be announced on election night, with an addition quarter (24%) expecting a formal result within the next day or two. Fully 25% of survey respondents expect the outcome to be unclear for more than a week after election day!
Nonetheless, traders will still try to handicap which candidate is most likely to win based on the outcome of “election night.” While the US stock market will remain closed overnight, index futures, international stocks, commodities markets, and the foreign exchange market will all be open to present trading opportunities.

I'm just wondering if a straddle technique or something can be used...just for fun. Some results can come in early and receive their own particular reactions or whatever. Scalp? Or generally stay away all together?

Well, it seems to me that the election can safely be called one of the most significant events of fundamental analysis. So yes, it definitely affects the market and can be reflected in huge speculations, which can be almost uncontrollable. This is true. In this period, a lot depends on how the election race is going and what promises or laws seem to be the most significant at this point. I can't say that at this time you should avoid working with this asset at all. But I think that we should watch what happens during this period more carefully and accordingly make decisions more carefully and we could earn without significantly increasing the risks, because it is really important.

All I remember was when it was clear Trump was going to win, USD/JPY and Nikkei 225 fell off a cliff. Later, S&P 500 also collasped.

Biden wins: Stability in world markets: A new beginning. Hope for rational decision making.
Trump wins: Mayhem in world markets: The same old sh*t except bigger and stinkier.

The 2 participants before me hinted at the same sort of thing too (outcome). Maybe not as directly as me tho.

This thread has lost it's purpose any way. It was about trading before the election. Now it doesn't matter. It is almost there and no one really came up with a golden method to trade the market other than that article link that I posted.
