Do you suggest any minimum balance ? I did a backtest (again) from 2001-01-01 to 2009-06-01 (9 years) with a capital of $1000.
It crashed in 3 years. Here is the the graph.

Now I am running again with 2000 deposit. lets see what happens.

But we didn't use it in 2001!

What is your point?

Sorry if that did not make sense to you. I was just backtesting it for a longer period of time - to measure how this EA would function in any period of time.

Do you think backtesting since 2001 does not make any sense ?

I am doubtful running back tests for 12 months!

The market changes so quickly I am inclined to monitor forward testing and re-evaluate the settings on a monthly basis.

Thank you for your quick response.

I understand it.. backtesting is not a gurantee that it works in live trading.. or vice versa

But I think-- to some extent backtesting is required - even to consider for live testing. I do understand that lot of people in this thread are doing live everday.. which probabaly testfies the worth of this EA.

To be honest, I am concerned with one aspect of this EA - stoploss being at 140. It can wipe out 7 wins (partial - only one trade hit profit)..

Now I am also putting on this on FXDD (demo) account for .01 lot size.. from today onwards..

Let me get the personal experience of this..

Unfortunately we have to rely on back testing when an EA is new so I have to eat my words for the moment!

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the great work.

I am wondering what this 197 SMA rule came in? I have been reading the thread and am at page 64..yet still to come across it. It's hard to filter out all those questions that people have to actual worthy posts. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction of this 197 SMA rule? I manual trade so it would be great if you explained in that accordance.

I appreciate it.

Thanks.

Tell me about it my friend!
I have bought dozens of "Robots", Clickbank should pay me commission for all the cr@p they have sold me!

As you say, none of them do what they say!
This is why I decided to learn how to write my own EA's and I now run a very successful company using my EA's to trade other peoples' accounts.

Unfortunately, I can't share these EA's with you as they are proprietory and belong to the company. lol.

Yes, the thread has grown somewhat!

We introduced the 197 SMA in an attempt to reduce the losses that we had when using just 10 SMA, it first came in with v7.

It reduces bad entries at the bottom of troughs and the top of peaks, because the 197 SMA is slower to turn round we end up with conflict with the 10 SMA and this stops us from placing an order.

Also, of course, we are now trading with the longer term trend.

I hadn't planned on doing that, I would prefer to upgrade v4 with the 197 SMA and keep that as the one order version.

I don't know how many people are using v4 so I didn't want to change it and annoy people who like it as it is!
