Hi,

I can find my way around MT4 pretty well these days though I've only just started looking at scripts and EA's. I'm wondering is it possible to use either to add drag and drop alert functionality.

Basically what I'd like to be able to do is drag a script to a particular point on the chart and have it automatically enter an alert with that price level. I imagine I'd have a different one for a > price than for a < price. I just want a quick intuitive way to put alerts on charts (if it added a line or an arrow at the same time that would be nice).

Does anyone know of such a thing already written? If not any idea's on how to write one?

Ignored
I think I've seen indicators and EAs that you can look at.
Check Tesla's thread here. Also I think accrete has an indicator that alerts off drawn lines.

The thread nvwine pointed you to will do the trick for alerts on horizontal and trend lines.

If you're really set on simply dragging a script or indicator onto the chart (and want to roll up your sleeves a write a bit of code) you can check out the windows functions. You can determine the price and/or time on the chart where the script was dropped, draw a line and handle the alerts.

nvwine, thx for the mention, yup the trendline audio alerts are nice (see my siggy file link) but i'm reeeeaaaallly liking tesla's alerter ea found at the link you posted !! The issue with the TLalerts is they send an audio alert each time the price hits the trend line. Now this is not an issue if you are at the charts, in fact i like hearing the alert and will then adjust it as needed. The cool thing with tesla's alerter ea is it will only sound once upon price's touch of a line. This is beneficial if you wish to send an email or sms to your cell phone... doing so with the TLalerts will send many, many messages as it will keep sending them every time the price hits the line...and that may not be what you want when not at the charts!

thx for the creative work tesla, and sharing it with the gang.

: ) Thom

Glad you like it. I suggest that you grab the updated code from post #28 (I think) since it lets the alerter run as an indicator and the email it sends provides slightly more info.
