2010, here are the trades that I currently have open. Currently I am +400 pips with these trades.

Hi Forexcube: Two quick thoughts from those charts, assuming this is an original entry and not an add on -- (1) it looks like the dark blue vertical line is the place you've marked to start looking for longs? If so, it could be at least 4 bars sooner at the last signal arrow (if not even sooner); and (b) on the 30m chart, it seems you were waiting on the AO to flip (based on the light blue vertical line) rather than the W-LNX? Sorry if I misinterpreted the charts.


Here is an update of the 4H EUR. It had set up for longs yesterday but has come back down on news/rumors. I would be cautious of any more EUR longs for the time being eventhough the AO is still north of the zero line.

Forexcube, you could've gotten in on these trades a lot sooner. Look at these charts.

Very nice trades. It looks that you just trail your SL and let the market to stop you out. Do you ever close the positions manually according to the indicators,such as over bought/sold,divergence, etc?

Yes I do sometimes. For example, I closed out audjpy and audusd because price has exhausted and is in retracement right now.

There have been a lot of questions about when to exit a trade, so I want to try to introduce a concept. This is rather philosophical more than a hard rule, so there are no screenshots to be supplied with this.

The system here is a multi-timeframe trend-trading system, using a long timeframe for trend direction and a shorter timeframe for optimized entry. For the sake of discussion, I will stick with H4 for trend and M30 for entry.

Hard stops under most circumstances are part of sound money management, no question here. But setting stops around support or resistance on the entry timeframe, or as has been suggested three-or-so candles back, will result in a lot of whipsaw and missed opportunities.

One approach that I like is to close orders only in profit -- be that with a trailed stop, when a target at previous support/resistance has been reached, a time stop etc. -- OR if the trend on the higher timeframe reverses. Because the system here uses multiple indicators to confirm trend (Awesome Oscillator, Heikin-Ashi, Trendlord, sometimes W-LNX CCI), it is important to decide whether all have to turn against the trade for a clear reverse signal, or whether to use a combination or give preference to one of the indicators. Personally, I think the AO crossing back over the zero line on a closed candle would be a strong enough signal to cut losses and exit the trade.

This has an added advantage beyond protecting from whipsaw: Sticking to this approach any trader would want to make sure beyond doubt that the trend on the H4 is sufficiently strong to warrant a trade, and thus be less inclined to jump into apparent M30 entries when the market is actually ranging. Plus, it protects from taking any counter-trend trades against the H4, thus making trading more compliant with the system described here.

If this approach seems to be too radical, a compromise would be to look at a timeframe in the middle and use i.e. crosses of the AO over the zero line on H1 to exit a trade before it turns further against you, regardless of whether in profit or loss.

I've been following this thread since its inception, and thanks to Tony, I have become a member of this web site because of it. So thanks to Tony and the informative members of this thread. Here goes my first post.

I was looking at "lgtj"'s screen shot above, and compared it to my own MT4 screen. I want to know why there is a discrepancy. Is it because mine is a demo acct. and his is a live? I have marked a line at the same point of the chart. His CCI and HA already shows the change in the color of the uptrend, yet my CCI and HA is still on the color of the downtrend. Almost as though I'm 2 candles behind.

Is this because I'm on a demo account?, or are my settings incorrect? I normally trade with FXCM using Marketscope, but this trading system template only works with MT4, so I need to get used to it.

Hi, I had took LONG trade at GREEN marker, after took that trade, trend suddenly goes down & hits my SL30pips.
I though it was perfect setup.
Please comment on my trade & advice what went wrong.Thanks.

The shape of candles is very different on my chart... Possibly due to the settings?
Tony, could you confirm what settings are you using for HA_T3 candles? Are they default as shown in the picture or have you adjusted sth?

Probably is due to different time server, the 4 hour chart differs from one broker to another, it depends on timezone.
