Hey guys,

I was short on Eur/USD, it would've hit my profit target if server hadn't gone down - Go markets promptly gave me profit upon calling them.

Good stuff!

Well, it was all looking so grand until that outage happened.

http://i.imgur.com/1ABne.gif

So that was quite alright. A little bit of down time that was rather manageable I think for my particular brand of trading. But then the following! What on bloody earth happened?!?!?!

This is ridiculous. I'm eager to hear what happened because at this rate, Pepperstone becomes more and more appealing, especially since they moved some of their framework to New York right next to their liquidity providers.

its an interesting clause in the product disclosure
perhaps all br*kers have such a clause; often wondered whether a court of law would deem such a clause fair and reasonable, and actually rule the br*ker must take responsibility

there is a popular misconception that just because you sign a contract, you are bound by it, not true if the terms & conditions are deemed unreasonable by a court of law

that said if trading big lot sizes, would you be trading with Go!

just interesting, i'm happy with Go to date

As much as the trader may be compensated, the onus is on the trader to be accountable for their trading account. Electronic trading brought increased issues to the private trader.

Have any traders received any form of contact not instigated by themselves regarding AUD account server issues. I know I haven't received an email, privately or to mt4.

Maybe GoMarkets should consider a page on their website incorporating platform status/issues to provide information to traders.

Hi Chris

For your information, I personally used and saw the other Australia MT4 platform does display 5 full daily bars (candles) per week comparing to GO but they have one extract H1 candle on Friday closing. It does make a different to traders whether to take trades on next Monday opening hour. Hope this is clear.

Cheers

and what the hell does this have to do with everyone voting to have the current hours that Go uses?

oh, in case you don't know.... the answer is none (bold is fun).

Good afternoon Chris,
I really wonder how go markets are still in business, they just have one problem after another and all so something else I've noticed over the last couple of weeks is that as you notice on the examples I've provided, the price did not reach the round number of 3625 (EUR/USD) on go markets chart this morning where it did on every one else charts..... So Go markets must not really want any real traders on there books instead just newbies who they can rob blind.

Sincerely
King Pippin

king pippin,
If you read the last couple of pages, you will understand why GO didn’t reach 3625.

king pippin,
I have been with GO since March 2009 and have observed their growth and the many improvements they have made. Yes there have been times when I have complained to Chris, however, I have found them to be honest and will bend over backwards to help customers when the customer treats them with the respect they deserve.
Too many customers, or maybe non customers, think they have the right to mouth-off and be disrespectful and unhelpful when there are problems with the feed, or maybe not problems with the feed but sloppy trading by the customer.
king pippin, if you live near Melbourne, why not make an appointment and visit GO at their office and see for yourself.

Peter-FX,
I hope you don't mind me entering into this conversation?
I am happy for you that GoMarkets is providing a service that you are happy with.
I agree it is a good idea to visit a FX providers office if possible, but I fail to see how visiting GoMarkets office provides any security or solace regarding recent slow execution, drop outs, freezes etc.
Let's be honest- whatever the issues- this service is not good enough.
I admit Chris does a good job communicating in this thread but there is still room for greater communication/transparency.
Not my job to contact my provider/broker regarding a mass outage. They should be proactive.

Regards
Alpha-Bet

At the present I only use GO, because of their locality and communications over the years.
I’m retired and therefore don’t need to solely trade for a living. Therefore I don’t trade with the pressure of “must make some money and not lose it, I must make it now.”

- What size lots do you trade on average.
I’ve been using a volume of 0.10 for quite some time now and that’s approx $1 per pip.

- What time frames are you mainly taking your trades from
If I’m at the computer, I mainly watch the M15 and will look at the H1, H4, Daily, Weekly and the Monthly. Occasionally I may even look at the M5 and M1 but don’t use them for trading. Also I mostly use buystops and sellstops, and a trailing stop, that way I can trade even while I’m away from the computer or sleeping.

- Also if your monthly withdrawals are above $20,000 (Have been for aleast 12 months) do you have many problems doing so
As you can see above I have no need for this amount of money.

Hi Guys,

First of all let me apologise to those clients impacted by the server downtime today and furthermore to everyone else impacted by the slowness, freezes and disconnections in the last couple of weeks. I am not going to make excuses or give you all rubbish, but the facts. I and we at GO Markets pride ourselves on honesty and integrity, and regardless of the problems we will admit to and fix them.

There are currently two, entirely different issues.

1 - Firewall - This is impacting on both live servers.

As I mentioned last week, an issue was discovered by our network and server administrators where the firewalls were running at processor usage levels well above the usual. We immediately escalated the issue to Juniper, who manufactre our firewalls, and they reported that there was an available firmware update and that this should be installed. On Saturday the firmware was upgraded which improved the processor usage, but only by a small amount. This was not deemed to be good enough, so we decided to setup another firewall. This one is a different model number, but still made by Juniper. The configuration was copied over from the original firewalls to the new one. This made an impact on the processor usage (falling from 85-95% to around 50%), but based on the feedback from some clients, the improvement has either not been noticeable, or has not been enough. We have further escalated the issue to Juniper as it is seemingly an issue with their setup and how it relates to our network.

We are currently in the process of configuring a new, Cisco firewall. There are approximately 7,000 lines of configuration to be put in place so it is not an instant process as I am sure you can imagine. Once this is done, the firewall (should be in the next day or so) will be switched over and we should then be able to confirm that the usage levels are better and it should result in an improved service for everyone.

2 - Real 1 - AUD server

As many of you experienced earlier today the AUD server was offline for around one hour. This was caused by an overuse of memory on the MetaTrader 4 server application. To give you more information, MetaQuotes will only allow us to run the MT4 server software on Windows 2003 32-bit operating systems. This causes a problem where certain file sizes become too big to be addressed by the server itself. Our actual server is currently operating at about 4-5% of capacity, so the overuse is not down to our hardware, but due to the limitations imposed by MetaQuotes. The reason for this overuse of memory is down to huge and unexpected, rapid expansion in the number of new clients and trading volumes. Essentially the MetaTrader 4 server has struggled to keep up with our recent success, which of course should have been better anticipated by us.

To combat this problem we have today ordered a third MetaTrader 4 live server which will allow some of the load to be redistributed to this server and for many new clients to also be setup there. This is expected to be configured in the next couple of days, assuming the licence comes through, and then be completed over the weekend which will solve the issue which was the cause of today's outage.

I can only apologise again for the recent service which I will admit has been below the standards we normally set and once these are fully rectified I will be pushing to make up for the problems.

Sorry for the long post, but I thought it important to give all the details. If anyone wants any further information from me, please contact me directly.

Thanks,
Chris
