{quote} Has anyone traded WTI or Nat gas during an inventory release? I'd like to take a position on Wed or Thur based on where I think the numbers will come in but don't know what typical slippage is in this scenario. I know the risk is there but considering whether the reward is worth it...

I have observed their behavior. Usually there's a significant movement after the release although, it tends to "bite back" and retrace quickly as greedy investors take their quick profits. Once it reverses, the market loses control and the inverse effect happens e.g. good oil news: oil plummets, bad oil news: oil surges. Either way it's chaos. Sometimes it just whipsaws for about 30 minutes... you try to enter one way, you get stopped, take the other way, get stopped again. As for slippage I don't have or barely have any. This news is too unstable.

Should probably avoid trading Oil, too many lobbies trying to drive the price where they want instead of fallowing offer and demand, its also notoriously loaded with Algos which make it more random and volatile.
that market isn't driven by fundamentals anymore (unless war or something) big corp decide where they want the price to go, algos add some noise on the way.

Ahh thanks very much for the tips, I followed the nat gas spike earlier today on inventory data and it looks like it was a good trading opportunity. When the actual isn't far off from the forecast you can get a nice short term trend setup.

I probably agree with your sentiment but I think it can be fun and potentially profitable to trade politics and corporate game theory. It's just a different set of fundamentals to be watching than FX or stocks.

Missed this. It's really hard to deal with cause the last 10 crude oil inventories have been whipsaws....

Hey, Tony!

Do you have a pack of such screenshots, or a folder where you collect them?

If yes, could upload it somewhere, please?

Well Tony, those words sounds familiar......see my writings: Never, ever give up. The enormous and repeated losses mirror back the unlimited profusion and squirting possibilities: the money lies there literally & figuratively for the picking

and also:

  1. The challenges in forex - so simple, but not easy @ all - are a support to transform my human shadow dysfunctional ego survival patterns, to give birth and manifest littlte by little my true nature. Through an attitude of immense respect, compassionate understanding, loving kindness and gratefulness for my continuous struggle with the obsessive self-destructive habits that appear in my insane unconscious, under the pressure of daily life and a fortiori in trading.
