My guitar is never too far away either!!

As a U2 fan, you'll probably know this, but it's worth sharing for others. The U2 song 'One Tree Hill' was inspired by one of Aucklands many (at least 9) extinct volcano's. One Tree Hill had, until fairly recently, one tree growing on it's summit. The tree had to be removed and now a new native tree is growing there. The original tree was a non native Pine. U2 were here for a concert and this place was the inspiration for the song. I grew up here and went to school here and spent many, many hours playing on One Tree Hill, I even went to a free concert of Split Enz in the crater of the volcano which makes a great amphitheater. The surrounding suburb is also named 'One Tree Hill' Here is a pic with the tree as Bono saw it, and another pic after the tree died.....and finally, the song

Yes, Steve Hunter is one of those musicians that people don't know much about, or have never heard of, yet for sure they have heard him play without realizing it!!

Another one is Nils Lofgren who is having a birthday today. Many won't know anything much about him, but they will have heard this Neil Young song on which Nils played the piano at the age of 17!! He also mada several albums of his own and then joined the EStreet band of Bruce Spingsteen.

Also having a birthday today is Ray Davies of the Kinks. A great singer / songwriter who, imo, is quite under rated.....

In the golden age (50-60-70) you had entire bands playing as session men! (Booker-T, for instance and Steve Cropper!!!)

Yes, the ever changing world of music has made the life of the session musician very different in the 21st century. I used to know a woman who was a session keyboard / pianist for Frank Sinatra (among others). She told me that they were great days, but one had to be careful with Mr Sinatra as he was much loved, but also much feared. Of course he was a 'connected' guy and so it was best not to get on the wrong side of such a man!

I supervised a lot of covers/re-editions for advertising purpose.

That must have been amazing....it's so different today. Not saying that today in music is not good, it's just different.
