This is the Sonic R. System thread. What we use in the way of technicals is very little: Dragon, Trend, and a bit of volume.

We do not use CCI, QQE, Butterflies, kitchen sinks, witches brew, or ouiji boards! Out of consideration for other Sonicers that are trying to learn the Sonic R. System, please post only Sonic R. System charts and trades!

If you trade otherwise, and use other stuff, that is for only you to decide. However, if you do, please do not post it here. If you feel "married" to some other technicals or some other method, please consider starting your own thread of same.

Of course, no thread is "pure"; just of the method prescribed. We all can, however, strive as Sonicers to keep things on track and stick to the Sonic R. System, ......for our own development and for the development of other Sonicers. That way, present and future Sonicers will not have to filter out a lot of crap to get the "real juice!"

Still ranging, but favoring the upper part. In fact, yesterday the highest activity was when the price hit HOD (High of Day), which could be a sign the Big Players are shorting. This does not mean it can't go higher. It can, especially if the BBs decide to get some shorts on at even higher prices; they'll drive it up and do so. Therefore, while continuing to keep an eye out for a SonicR setup for a short, a drive higher could also result from a setup.

Bottom line for me is I'm bearish and concerned that any long setup might turn out to be a headfake or a short lived run. I'm more disposed to a short setup. I already have two short trades running.

I found Volume is a good tool to draw support & resistance lines ( or zones ). For a newbie like me, it's simple and easy.

This is a simple AU 1H ( it work for all TF ) : Weekly, Daily, 4H, 1H, 15min, 5min...

Anyone in this thread use volume for that ?

Let me share my idea.
Volume means "how many" traders reacting in this level or How strong ($$$) BB act.
R/S are not exactly the same.
Not always big volume near the R line (zone) = possible reverse, in some case this volume re-ignite the move.
Your job is "watch" the R/S zone and know "what" and "who" are they doing there.
In Sonic R ( ask TAH or another trader with more experience in this system) we use this areas mostly for exit.

If we could all just control our emotions and trades half as good as this guy controls his bike, our accounts would see some mad growth.

If you look closely at the chart I just posted above you will see some volume indicators on the left side (red and green bars very faded). There are a couple of things I can tell you about this:

First, mostly forget about something like this on a 15 minute chart. In fact, many things on a 15 minute chart are just not as credible as they are on a Daily or Weekly chart.

2nd, as SL kind of alluded to, you can't just draw meaningful S/R areas from volume alone. Volume is always important, but less so for actual S/R areas.

Probably would be a good idea to read up on S/R but basically what you have are high probability zones for reversals. Why this is so is because price has left many people trapped at these areas, people think it is a good bet for a reversal so they pile in, and if price has reversed in this spot in the past especially more than once, then it means even more people trapped.

So for example on the chart I posted if you look at the 1345 level, you see at least 4 times price has reversed when it hit this level. The very last time, people piled in to buy when price hit this level and price reversed. Why? Well exactly what I said above. First there were trapped short sellers, because they were shorting before it crossed 1345 (thinking price would reverse, it didn't it consolidated then continued up), and then when it went over they foolishly did not stop out and kept short. So when price gets back here they are dying to get out at break even! 2nd, people know this, so they start buying at this level thinking price will reverse, they also seen price reverse at this level in the past, so just another reason to buy. A self-fulling prophecy if you will. Its been many years since I read up on S/R, but this is the basics reading may get you more insight.

Now we come to those bars. What these show are approx how much volume was traded at each level (each level that the bar physically covers). I apologize I forget the name of this indy, but you will find it at Stockcharts.com if you go looking in Chart School (which I highly recommend). What you see if you look very closely, is the longest bar is at the 1300 level, so most of the "trading" on this chart happened at that level. That means that any support/resistance in this area is likely to be strong, which in this case I have marked as 1305. You also see a very long bar around the 1345 level, which I have marked as strong as well (thick red/green line). Note that I also consider how many times price has reversed at a certain level when I am marking the strength.

So if someone wants to use volume to "help" markup S/R areas, this is the way I would recommend doing it and probably down to an hourly chart.

Hope this helps you and anyone not clear on S/R. Note I did not mark the whole chart, just important areas close to price.

Edit - Oh one more thing. If you want to trade the SonicR system I highly recommend reading the first 50 pages of thread, and then the last 50, which will show you how volume is used here. I also highly recommend doing some research on VSA, which really goes into detail great stuff.

Volume:

Sonicers, so many times on this very large thread I, and others, have "essentialized" volume. I'm not looking to do this again right now. But just to help you all from getting off the straight and narrow, please heed these comments.

1. Volume is a count of orders executed only thru your broker's server. It is not market wide. Furthermore, it is insensitive to the actual size of orders. Hence, a small volume bar can represent a hell of a lot more currency traded than a large volume bar!

2. SonicR VSA is not the "VSA" most people are familiar with. We look for volumes (orders executed thru broker) that are a measure above the average, to show sudden trading interest where the price is. We also look for "climax" activity (same as in "VSA") showing high order levels in a price run that indicates professional trading activity (more than retailers could make happen). This can be a clue as to what professional traders are doing.

How these two volume components are used is limited, and is referred to in many posts in the thread, as well as in some summaries posted now and then. If you try to use volume many other ways, I believe you are in for a rude awakening.
