BEIJING (Dow Jones)--China's Commerce Ministry on Thursday welcomed a World Trade Organization ruling about U.S. restrictions on Chinese poultry imports, urging the U.S. to "thoroughly remove the discriminative restrictions" on Chinese imports.
The comments, made by ministry spokesman Yao Jian and posted on the ministry's website, came after a WTO arbitration panel ruled Wednesday that U.S. restrictions on Chinese poultry imports are illegal, a rare victory for China at the WTO against the U.S.
Yao said Chinese chicken products are safe and hopes the U.S. can take measures to resume normal trade of poultry between the two countries soon.
