There was another thread like this one a few years ago. Eventually it was shut. The reason was that one poster in particular had issue with Israel's foreign and domestic policies. He would not let it go. Obviously that could not stand for many reasons that people our age need not expound upon.

This thread is more benign. The brits have an issue, and they are teaching us yanks what could happen to us. I do not see anything wrong with that.

On the 8th June I could be voting for Jeremy the Shagger and Diane the Mathematician. Purely for economic reasons....

The Witch of Westminster has already declared that the Tories will examine how older people fund themselves. The track record so far ... George Osborn removing the right of a Sole Trader to recover finance charges against business income sets the scene for their real intentions, IMHO. Therefore I expect some whining about how people are living longer as the Tories plunder the prudent savings of the elderly, and what-have-you, in order to reduce Corporation Tax further, or some such.

The Red Brigade on the other hand will re-instate the brain drain by providing free University education. This move will again dilute the local value of the BA or B.Sc. in the UK, but the capable achievers will head overseas as before to escape the 'tax the rich' mentality that goes with it; not to mention the attractive salaries normally found there.

The bit that worries me is whether my own pile will protrude above the parapet far enough to be considered 'more than I need' in the means-tested malarchy that will follow.

this is very short sighted of you with Jeremy we will get a bad deal for leaving the EU this we lead to long term damage to the country with the Witch you will just lose out short term once we have the negotiation for Brexit sorted we can vote for Labour and they can reverse policies we dislike keep in mind i'm basically losing my inheritance and it's the only inheritance me are my girlfriend will receive but comparing this to the long term damage comrade Corbyn will do to this country it's the best option just think long term and it's a easy choice

I don't particularly like Mays wealth tax either, unfortunately it will be the prudent that suffers.

There is another side to this though, the baby boomer generation gave themselves lots of 'free' stuff; free education for a long time, free healthcare, pension at 65.

The trouble is that there has been a big demographic shift (as you say) there are a lot more older people relying on a proportionally smaller tax paying base. Something will give.

I paid a decent amount in tax last year (by my standards anyway) and consumed no health or welfare - rates and VAT exluded. People like me (and your kids) will have to work longer and pay more tax so that wealthy older people can have free social care after retiring at 65. That's not fair either.

No matter how you cut it, someone is getting screwed with the inevitable social care reforms. Don't think for a second comrade Corbyn won't come after your wealth either, he's coming to give 'free' stuff to everyone and nothing is safe.

Don't do it mate. It will even out. Corbyn planning a land/garden tax instead of council tax. We will get shafted whoever is at the helm but Corbyn I fear will be the greater of all the evils.

If Corbyn get into No10 it would be catastrophic for the country and when it all turn to "rats poo" for him and the country, he will say that it was the Conservatives and Brexit, but not his Socialist policies

Should Corbyn and his team (inc McKlusky, Farron and Sturgeon) take power, he will take the UK back to the 1970's. Nothing will function. NHS will be in a worse condition, Education will be dumbed down, Utilities will always be on strike, Post Office wont deliver, no one will invest in the UK, wealth creators will leave by the boatload, prices will only increase across the board, the pound will plummet in value, inflation will soar, interest rates will soar, industry will no longer find the UK competitive and leave or outsource, unemployment will rise considerably, Corbyn will tow the EU line and we will have to doff our caps at the EU again. Corbyn's only option to maintain his tax and spend policy will be to reduce the top rate tax threshold, trapping more people in the top rate.

Most of the younger generation don't understand the 1970's when the Unions ruled and it was this period that forced the UK to join the EEC. Most will not understand that the wealth creators can bugger off to some other country or that Corbyn's socialist utopia will destroy innovation and enterprise. He will undo in 2 years, what it has taken 30 years to create
