I think that once again some things are happening that tighten the bond between the Brits and Yanks. Though a student of history, I'm like everyone else. Our main sense of history is our lifetime. In that period we had Churchill and Roosevelt. They brought us through WWII. In the 80's, we had Reagan and Thatcher. They brought down the "evil empire" along with the Berlin wall and liberated millions in Eastern Europe. We now face islamic terrorism, possibly the worst of the bunch. It seems Trump is rising to the occasion. Ofttimes one strong leader inspires others to leadership. We are living in historic times.

The UK had a Socialist Government in the Early 1970's. It bankrupted the country. Manufacturing was the joke of the modern World. The NHS was in tatters, Road infrastructure was total crap, Trains never ran on time (if they ran at all) Utilities were on their knees, Unemployment was astronomical, Investment was near zero, even fuel supplies were hit, forcing those in work, into 3 day working weeks. Things got so bad that the UK had to beg the EEC (now the EU) to allow it to join, so that we could save our arses. Now that is true Socialism

Yeah, well Saddam did invade Kuwait, and lobbed scud missiles into Saudi Arabia, and Israel. I was in the Dhahran Hilton (or Holiday Inn ? ) in '93. They had a large chunk of missile carcass on display in a cabinet in the foyer ... seemed weird at the time.

Saddam went wrong by not enlisting the help of the Russians before the invasion. He would still be there, and in Kuwait probably, if he had done that.

Out of here for the weekend. Memorial day always special at my house. Wish I could just wiggle my nose like Samantha, the friendly witch, and have all my friends (and mates) from the "hole" over for Sunday afternoon cookout. Cooking a big mess of ribs over charcoal, grilled asparagus, redhead cooking sauteed kale, Boston baked beans and bbq hash. Top it off with pineapple upside-down cake to kill for. Couple bottles of chilled chardonnay and couple bottle cabaret. And of course, some warm beer (ugh) for my bud Stu. Y'all have a good'un!

I was in San Pans Disco many years ago ( a week after the major earthquake) any my colleagues warned me about that Coors and Bud shit before my trip.
