I think and i deeply believe that mastering S/R level alone is enough to be a successful trader. After mastering that, mastering a reversal pattern, candlestick pattern, divergence/convergence and volume trading are the next important stuff after S/R.

Most of the time these reversal pattern, trend continuation pattern, candlestick pattern, low/high volume candle, divergence/convergence appears at or near these S/R level. That is why i emphasised to master the S/R level before anything else in order to have a valid signal.

I believe that trends are both random and predictable.

For the ease of explanation I'll focus only on bullish trends.
For me a trend is a series of up and down swings. A successful bullish trend will have larger distance in pips from the begging of the bullish swing and to its end (when the price reverses) and noticeably smaller distance of pips in distance from start to end of the bearish swing.
Now those swings are also micro trends of their own.
In other words there would be much more up ticks rather than down ticks : in a minute, 10 minutes, hour, or the entire day.

What happens at the session's open I guess, is a cluster of awaiting orders (I believe I also saw some people calling session opening times - volatility clusters) , and through the price discovery process the trend beggins. Forming in a structure similar as I have described above. If it was a bullish trend, than there are possibilities of a price making a retracement lower due to profit taking at the close of the session.

Simply put - A bullish trend is the price movement specifically upwards from the the reference point price of its origin. Most origin points can be expected at session oppenning times. It simply shows a collective action of smart money driving price in one direction. We as small retail traders can't create trends, therefore the only way for us to profit is by being parasitic traders, riding the trend created by the work of smart money. However its better to jump on the train before it leaves. Which direction ? Even though there are edges which will improve the likelihood of going one sirection over the other. Its still close to impossible to predict with ideal consistency.

Trends are also Ponzi Schemes as Tunera put it (this quote is copied from Tunera entirely)-

Art is also a science. And science could also be art.

Trading is a science, there are quantifiable variables which offer an opportunity to be exploited (for example volatility clusters at a well known constant point of time such as session oppenning times). Or there also theories such as the Dow Theory which attempt to describe the properties of the trend in a somewhat scientific way.

Now its also an art because because different traders will add something of their own to the methodology. People with slightly different methodologies might get the same entry signal. However person A might exit in a profit of 53 pips, while the other will exit at 5 pips.

Do brokers want us to consider trading as an art which is the reason why so many people cluster their charts with illogical bs and sit behind their computers all happy cause a book told them that as long as their psyhology is strong, they can artistically doodle their way to the riches ?
Yes!!!!

Personally I think that trading should be scientific mainly, but a tiny ammount of the "art" in the process depends on the definition of art. If you define Art as a skill required to deal with somewhat discretionary discipline at times, than yes, if a trader lack knowledge/resource to quantify something than his aproach to it would be more like an art in the definition above.

However if by art you mean, doing whatever creative bs... than I only know that most failed traders could perhaps make a future in modern art. Just look at what those guys use in attempts to capture profits out of the market. Their charts look as if they were drawn by a 6 year old who dreams to be a cool guy working at a stock exchange.
