I didn't think that Aussie news at 11:30 will affect NZD as well that much. So will see how it goes

Tick charts were a revelation for me after using time based for a year.
I use them both now at the same time.

Do you mean the number of ticks on Ninjatrader is lower than on Sierracharts?
I know forex is not centralized, but I thought that the number of ticks would be the same for everybody, as it is related to the change of price and price is the same for everybody? Or am I mistaking?

EDIT: Turns out I was mistaking. Ticks are not related to price changes..

This didnt go anywhere. Just ranging for 7 hours I am out. i close it BE + few pips. I think i am not where i thought i am.

Unfortunatelly not 300 pips. I find more profitable with my fixed TP. When i try trialing stops it took me out on smaller SL profits. Thats my own experience its works that way better for my style

USDJPY.. many pips to grab..
But I just cannot trade it. Can't find an entry. SL has to be where?
There's hardly any structure available when trending like this.
Long runs and small corrections.
How should one trade this? Not maybe?
I would like to try an entry at 38.2, but I garantee you, at that exact time, price corrects deep

Time-based charts draw a new bar after a set period of time for example every 5 minutes. Tick charts draw a new bar after a set number of trades in Mr.Pip's example would be 233 tick chart or after 233 trades have been completed.

Yes, in most instruments a tick is the minimum price increment but a tick chart is what I described above and is not related with the change of price.

Yes I understand there's a difference.
But in case the tick is an increment or decrement in price, like in forex, is it possible that different traders see different ticks?
Price increments/decrements are the same for everybody or not?
Or maybe only when using ECN?

Either I don't understand your question or you don't understand how a tick chart is made... a candle on a 233 tick chart is drawn when 233 trades have completed not when price has moved 233 pips or something like that. A tick on a tick chart means a trade and it has nothing to do with price. There are two types of ticks. One tick is the minimum value change of an instrument (for example 6J tick = 6.25$ ) the other term tick is used for a trade. So you can call a 233 tick chart something like a 233 "trade" chart...

I can't explain it better.

Sorry for frustrating you with my stupidity.
Thanks for emphasizing it was TRADES and not PRICE CHANGES.
I was in some kind of delirium.
Now that also answers my question I think.
Because it's related to number of trades, and forex is decentralized, different traders can see a different number of ticks, right?
But can it differ between software when using the same broker like pereiraalex said in his post?

Sorry, only read the question now.

What I meant was, dunno why, but something like a 89 tick chart on Ninja Trader is like a 233 tick chart on Sierra Charts. Its the same basicly, doesnt change any trading rule or expectation, but in SierraCharts seems way more detailed.

Well, haven't tested much, but SierraCharts has a "number of trades" AND "price changes" different charts. Also has a "delta" chart. Actually has alot of charts I didn't knew about.

I guess that in Futures, 233 tick charts will always be 233 tick charts for everybody. In CFD and Forex, it is nice to have a good broker feed and software ( Dukascopy JForex also seems reliable feed )

Just be carefull with PTMC software ( pro trader ) and Ninja Trader ( too less extent ) with tick charts : They can change the candles after a data refresh. Expecially PTMC with FXCM or LMAX, it changes BIG TIME !!! ( SierraCharts doesn't do this ).

The software shouldn't have any impact on theory. But for example I know that Ninja trader has some small issue like after you refresh a tick chart the candles aren't exactly the same.

And yes for spot fx since it's decentralized, tick charts will be different from broker to broker.

I still can't believe I've always (always = like 6 months) interpreted ticks the wrong way.
I've been trading for months with my own definition of ticks in mind.
It raised some questions, things I didn't understand.
Those questions have now been answered
Still learning everyday, although I didn't expect to re-learn something I thought I knew for sure!

Bulls started losing momentum and projection short term.
Rotation candle at 78.6% of swing and 50% of larger swing.
SL above the smaller swing, TP at 1:1 of the swing
Bulls woke up, SL hit -26pips
What went wrong?
I should have traded the larger swing?

Very interesting battle today on YM. L/t expectation is for a NSL but on the short term the bulls are throwing some serious money.
