Your joke misses the point... it was an anomalous move. The market doesn't normally move like that. It stook out like a sore thumb BEFORE the reversal.

Yes. The question isn't whether someone can make a return on blind 50-50 odds. That's simple enough to do. Just manage the money and wait. The question is can people properly identify the times when the odds are better than 50-50. Because those times do exist.

Another thing I've noticed is that there are a lot of folk who seem to believe that their approach is the ONLY possible way to be profitable. For example, CrucialPoint says that he uses neither TA nor FA (e.g. here). Yet I know at least two millionaire fund managers who use predominantly FA, and two very successful traders who use only TA. (A couple of examples here). All of these traders are profitable in their own way. Read Jack Schwager's Market Wizards books and you'll see that the approaches of the wizards likewise all differ in some way. And here is an (IMHO) outstanding post by Copernicus explaining the differences between discretionary and generalized/systematic approaches.

The hedging/nedging argument is another good example: each of the two camps claims that they can see something that the other can't, but curiously is unable to construct an explanation that is convincing to the opposing camp.

In talking with other traders, I've learned that, to be a successful trader, you don't need to:
 understand philosophy 101 (the basis of your post that I quoted)
 be overly good at math (although a knowledge of basic math can be helpful)
 be a logical/analytical/critical thinker (e.g. an INTJ personality type)
 have an overly high IQ

I've given up attempting to have a meaningful discussion with certain FF members, because it invariably ends up in a hopeless misunderstanding. I think that part of the problem is that trading can be embraced either as an art, or a science. Both approaches can work, but a scientist can struggle to see the artist's view, which seems frustratingly incongruous to the scientist; and vice versa.

Having tight SL is similar to having no SL. They are almost the same. Your SL is triggered even when the setup is strong just because the trader is too picky and doesn't want to loose the position, after which the movement goes the to direction it has previously been going.

If you trade breakout your SL should not be on S/R after breakout. For long position it should be below the broken resistance. This is because of the possibility of a very retesting of the broken resistance. Same with support breakout

Yes, those times do exist. But when? And even if you are lucky enough to be there when that happens I doubt the odds are better than 60/40. Someone has to take the other side of the trade, and if you have a perfect trade, then who would take the other side? Perfect trades do not exist.

hedging/nedging is 100% objective easy to show as wrong (and by the way you know this too), and each argument some tells as advantage can by destroyed (you pay a fee for dont use trading book/journal or dont want learn programming other style - so easy, no other arguments possible). if hedger accept the fee (often 10-200% from the wins per year) then all is fine. simple.

so for this hedging topic i cant see why you say its an other good example, when you speak before about different trading strategies can win (because its an objective mathematic easy topic - and different trading strategies are subjective topics because there are many different parameters possible)?

then crucial point is useless example. he has many posts and told many thinks, many was even wrong, many complete bullshit (why do you think he never won only one discussion after he make bullshit mistakes and always hides? because he was teached wrong and cant accept it and cant defend his arguments, so easy, he looks like a little boy faking trading, dont let cheating you so easy always, you have some market knowledge so you could easy see it by your own). so not easy to say what is all true in his case. he trades without stoploss, he has many indicators in his chart and dont use TA? maybe its not easy for some to see his bullshit what he writes (because he had many book content in his postings), but after some posts many should see big mistakes. noone would send pictures of his account if he had millions in reality, he would be first stupid man doing so. because he dont win anything with it. money can be demo account and simple photoshoped( money can be from pamm and not his money/or money from friend/stolen from internet as picture and tell its his/ he could have 20 mill payed in and then shows 9 mill would be big loss/he has money in currency that are not worth many transfered in us dollar/.......... nothing is possible to show with such picture, and if cp had a minimum intelligence in trading he would know so, and then showing no stoploss in his trade there after teaching all this book leassons, come on, all should know he is faker and liar. in all what cp has written you could see he is still a beginning trade (if you dont cant book lessons), so dont let you fake so easy.

and that many different methods by trading can win is of course true, i think noone will ever tell different. you can set blind different lines in chart, you can set lines in chart with a distance of 50 (or wahtever) pip,..... and you will get same trading strategies hits like using pivots points /fibonacci, ..... you can win with all trading systems if you are trained by math and market basics/structure and you can lose with all when you are not. its a math game in many components.

Yeah at one point cp used to post his bs cryptic stuff on a fxcm forum, dailyfx if im not mistaken. Like you are that super successful trader that brokers threaten because you are using some deadly edge ( yeah he said it once), with all your millions and stuff, but why do you still find the need to go on dailyfx forum to preach your stuff hard over there uh ? To entice people to open trading accounts or what ?

he has to be cryptic, or many people would see very fast how stupid his post was. thats why he could also not answer to hist mistakes , he could only do "this is my last post here" by sending his textes, so he can disaapear and some people maybe will not ask to his bullshit and mistakes.its a good psychologic experiment how many people fall in his bullshit , they could easy learn this basics by reading in internet or reading books, unbelieveable they did follow an easy to see faker.
it looks like even some not so "newbie" traders are cheated by him and they thought he is good. really scary how easy it is to influence peoples mind.

without correcting his postings many of his textes was so useless and even sometimes really dangerous for new traders, because of complete bullshit context.

Lots of people chipping in with their ideas, but such an unstructured load of bollocks is pretty useless to anyone wanting to learn how to trade.

Things to consider:

- Trading is a business. Forex trading is big business.
- AI plays a big role.
- Big DATA analysis also plays a big role.
- We need to know what High Speed Trading means...
- Powerful Hardware and fiber optics are a must.
- We need lots of money to really make lots of money in trading Forex
- If you own a BANK, that helps
- If you a own a trading company, that also helps
- Don't invest you money.
- Trading for big money is almost "dirty business".
- Making money in Forex can be: wining for every trade you make no matter if you win or lose a trade
- Making money in Forex can also be: exploit your willing to get easy money or your real need for money to make a living; you can also exploit your willing to gamble

It's possible for a small trader to make some money... It's very, very unlikely that a small trader can make a living just by trading (buying and selling currency)
