Hi there. First of all, thank you for this truly amazing indicator. It's wonderful, I love it. I created an account here just to report a bug on the latest version. You see, after attaching the indicator to a chart, if one selects "RelevantCcyChartsOnly=true", no news will appear at all. For this setting to work, the value has to be set to false first, and only THEN it can be changed to true to show only relevant news to the selected currency pair. TL;DR: RelevantCcyChartsOnly=true only works if it's set to false first.

Anyone has a code for EA - input the CSV format news file to avoid the high impact news??

I'm currently rewriting the logic (the MQL4 replacement for FFcal.EXE) in your 2008 News Composite indicator based on the News file by Exidez.

Unfortunately, you haven't posted the "Plot News v4-00 main chart.mq4" file with the MQL4 code.
Do you see any problem to share the source code with us?
It will help a lot if I could use it's logic and the code instead of developing from scratch.

I've created and uploaded a new version (v4.08).

The News Downloader.exe app now calls curl instead of wget, which for reasons I don't understand was failing to download data from the FF calendar URL (it was returning a "Host not found" error). This might also fix some of the previous "Unable to process calendar" errors; I'm not sure, but please feel welcome to give v4.08 a try. You can download it from the ZIP file attached to post #1. Operationally, everything works the same as in v4.07, hence I haven't bothered to update the instruction manual.

If all else fails, you can always use exidez's python script for downloading the news events (see post #200).

Hi David,

Thanks for making Plot News available but unfortunately I'm also getting the "unable to process calendar" message whenever I click OK to download news with the News Downloader.exe file. You said that it's now using curl.exe instead of wget.exe. When I try to directly execute curl.exe, Windows 10 gives the error message, "This app cannot run on your PC." However, when I execute the wget.exe, a box pops up for a split second and I don't get any error messages so I'm thinking that maybe News Downloader.exe v4.07 will work on my Windows10 since it uses wget. Therefore, can you please repost v4.07 so I can test it because the PythonNewsDownlaoder.exe also gives the same "This app cannot run on your PC" error. Thanks.

Just saw your post now, it seems that commercial threads don't automatically send the thread owner an alert.

Alas, I don't keep old versions of the software, v4.08 has overwritten v4.07

Anyway, just now I attempted to run the DOS command

and a file 'ffcalout' with the following content was generated:

Because this WGET command used to run correctly a few months back, I think the problem is due to some recent change within the FF calendar, as opposed to the Windows version.

Anyway, try typing the command in blue typeface into Windows 10's DOS shell, and see what you get. If the result is a processable HTML-formatted news file, then I'll include an option to choose between WGET and CURL in the next version (v 4.09 -- but not sure when I'll get around to doing it, as I'm snowed under coding EAs at the moment).

Thanks for your reply. When I executed the wget command you posted I got the same result, "https: Host not found" etc, therefore, it's not necessary to add wget as a download option since it appears that wget doesn't work well when retrieving files via https unless a --no-check-certificate flag is used but that didn't work for me.

Since the version of curl you provided does not work with my Windows 10, I downloaded the curl.exe file with SSH Support from http://www.paehl.com/open_source/?CURL_7.53.1

I found this link in the Win32 - Generic section of the curl download page at https://curl.haxx.se/download.html

I replaced your curl version in the MQL4/Files/ directory with this compatible version and when I executed the following curl command:

the webpage was downloaded and saved with the file name "calendar.php_week=apr2.2017" and with when I executed this command:

However, whenever I execute the News Downloader.exe file I'm still getting the "Unable to process calendar" error. Even when I replaced the dll you provided with the dll I download from the "Download libcurl.dll (all versions) only" link at http://www.paehl.com/open_source/?CURL_7.53.1 I got the same error. Therefore, I suspect that since curl works independently on my Windows 10, the problem may be related to how News Downloader.exe is calling curl. If you can figure this out that would be great so we can use this wonderful News indicator. Thanks for taking the trouble to make this indicator available for us.

Thanks for the info.

I notice that NewsDownloader.exe is running happily on my notebook PC (my desktop computer is currently down at the repair shop), but I get "Unable to process calendar" when running it on my wife's PC. Both are running Win7 and the version of CURL that I supplied in the post #1 zip. I will investigate further when I get my other computer back.

I've recompiled and uploaded a new version of the downloader (in the ZIP file attached to post #1), which continues to call CURL v7.53.1 (also included in the ZIP) rather than WGET.

This version seems to run OK on both my MT4 computer and my wife's computer, i.e. it generates a CSV file of news announcements. Please feel welcome to give it a try. If it fails, you could try exidez's downloader (see post #200).

Your updated version of the News Downloader works perfect but I had to replace the version of culr.exe included with one that is compatible with my version of Windows as I explained in my previous post HERE.

I read through the operating instructions but I could not find a way to also plot, alert or export news events from an additional currency or currencies while using the RelevantCcyChartsOnly option that shows only news events relating to either currency on the chart. For example, while using the RelevantCcyChartsOnly option, I would like to also plot, alert and have the ability to also export news events relating to the USD currency especially since all USD news events affect all currency pairs. When you get some spare time we would really appreciate it if you can add this option.

Thanks a million for making this wonderful indicator available. There is nothing that compares to it.

1. The rationale behind RelevantCcyChartsOnly is to filter out all news events that don't pertain to the currencies on the current chart. Anything else seems illogically arbitrary to me.

2. Sorry, but I'm not offering a coding service for individual FF members, especially if it might cause a situation where another user requests that I change the indicator back the way that it was working originally. (Prior versions of Plot News were downloaded > 50,000 times, but you're the first person to ask for this change). That's one reason why the software is offered on an 'as is' basis. Anyway, I've uploaded the indicator's source code to post #1, so that you can modify it, or have it modified by another programmer, to suit your own requirements. You will need the .mqh files in the include folder, and also the MT4 build 509 metaeditor/compiler, all of which is included in the ZIP file.

I updated the attached file since there were errors in the download format I included for use with the News Downloader app and that created errors in the included sample csv files. The error caused incorrect sorting of the news am and pm event times. I corrected those errors so if you downloaded the CSVtoXML2.zip file on May 18th that was attached to previous post, then please download it again. Thanks.

Edit: Again I found what I hope is the last error in CSVtoXML2.xlsm. It was pulling the impact values from the second sheet in the workbook instead of the last sheet. I corrected line# 57 in VB Module1 to now include: Worksheets(Worksheets.Count).Cells(Rw, "D").Value instead of Worksheets(2).Cells(Rw, "D").Value

Therefore, if you already downloaded CSVtoXML2.zip today, then please re-download it. Sorry about that.

I was getting the dreaded "Unable to process calendar" message when running NewsDownloader.exe, but after recompiling it, it seems to be working correctly once again. I've uploaded the recompiled version in the Plot News v4-08.ZIP file attached to post #1.

Sorry, it works with Forex Factory only. To gather news from another site would require a complete rewrite of the downloader. There may be other news indicators that use forexlive.com or dailyfx as their news source, but I'm not sure, you'd need to find them yourself.
