I did not mean for it to be asinine, but certainty in any subject is usually unwise. Truth outside of the laws of science will always be subjective. So if life is black and white to you, then I can understand why questioning your belief system would insult you. Usually people who think in binary terms attach a negative word to their disagreement, such as, delusional.

Thinking I can move the sun is delusional, questioning certainty is called rational thought.

I prefer black and white than shades of grey. It is good to make your mind up rather than dithering, which helps no one. I am for a less complicated life. People who dwell a lot tend to go around in circles and get nowhere.

{quote} My first job back in the mid seventies was selling fasteners -- basically nuts and bolts. I had a good friend who was also in sales. He taught me much. He was about 15 years older than me, a degree in philosophy, good looking ladies man, excellent salesman and smooth as they come. We had many discussions. Religion, government, and many on human nature. He had the same view of truth you do. On marriage, it was OK for him to have affairs but not proper for his wife as they had children and he was the male. I said you made a commitment and...

very interesting post

to jmn, he is not claiming to know the truth, but attempting to live as if it was purely black or white, good and evil.

he is recognising that even though life might be grey, it is better to avoid the slow moral decay that living your life as 'grey' allows, and instead live as if it were black or white

Firstly I have no idea if it was Smikester who reported posts for code of conduct but if it was or whoever it was is obviously abusing their senior status as there wasn't anything toxic about the vids, some stuff isn't very palatable, it's just life.
Everyone is aware that this thread isn't about trading as so many aren't here at FF.

I don't think anyone has questioned ability regarding trading or his services to novices but if it was him/her who reported the posts here, it is a clear abuse of his Red Flag status.

It is nice walk mate. That is Liverpool docks in distance about 4.5/5 miles as the crow flies. We don't actually have a harbour, it's all a locked dock system accessed by a dredged channel in the river.

J, my beliefs in most of the things I consider important in my life are not open to dramatic change or insult. They have become well grounded over many years, open to small changes as I continue to study and research things that are of interest to me. I was raised to say what you mean and mean what you say and never say something about someone that you wouldn't say eyeball to eyeball. I can tell that the main posters here at the hole are same as me.

What does irritate me is the word games people have gotten into. Started in earnest with Bill Clinton. Guy lied all the time and the media thought it was so cool. Remember his "It all depends what the word 'is' is. Remember the stained dress? He finally had to come "clean" with that claiming "that wasn't really sex". He was a accused serial rapist. His wife headed the little group that tried to destroy his accusers. The Clinton's had more people connected to them commit suicide than any major mobster. There were numerous scandals surrounding them, starting when he was governor of Arkansas. The man was impeached, for crying out loud --- and yet -- his wife who I consider even more evil than him almost became the leader of our country. That's what happens when truth and reality start getting bastardized. I am sick of it. And that, my friend, is the last "deep discussion" I intend to get in. I prefer seeing Stu's kids and light heart'ed chatt'in.

Sorta looked like open water. Looks beautiful. Would love to visit -- visiting HMS Victory on bucket list -- not sure I'll ever get the redhead on a plane flying that far. Read lots on Admiral Nelson. Quite a naval genius.

Thanks. Great piece. Keeping it. Had no idea your shipyards built couple of southern privateers -- the Alabama being the most famous. Also didn't know Hitler put that much emphasis on destroying that port. I think a couple of those ship models mentioned ended up at the naval museum at Savannah Ga. They are beautiful and very detailed. Understand one of those used to train the royals. My grandfather was one of the first in southern Mississippi to start using Guernsey and Jersey cows in his diary. Can still remember them milking 60 plus cows by hand twice a day. He was first to get a double bay automatic milking system. (today he would be cursed for putting people out of work with automation ) I think finding there were two islands where those cows came from helped create my interest in geography and history.

Thanks. Gonna do some research on your area. Very interesting. Life on the farm back then was great. We were so dumb, though. Didn't know that most anything would kill us. Even at 6 -8 kids were allowed most anywhere, even went camping and fishing by ourselves. Adults just figured we were smart enough to figure things out and not get ourselves kilt!!
