In the UK schooling is free up to the age of 17 ~ 19. So long as you are in school following recognised learning paths. The result of sticking with it (and achieving) up to May/June in the final school phase is that you achieve sufficient qualifications to allow you to proceed into University, if that is what you want. I believe young people can exit the school system after age 16 if they have achieved reasonable base competency but wish to follow some trade such as carpenter or mechanic; or maybe even just get a job anywhere.

Not only is this education 'provided', the government insists that young people stay at school until they have achieved a minimum (but miserably low) standard of written English and fluency with Mathematics. After the age of 17 if a young person has not achieved base-capability they can choose to leave school. Most schools will not allow students to enter the University entrance qualifying phase (normally 2 further years) unless students have done better than average at the base competency level.

The 'free' school is a moot point. It is of course actually paid for by tax-payers.....
University is not free either, but the government will 'lend' students the money to attend and then extract the debt slowly when the adult is earning more than something like the average wage.

The parents do not intentionally teach this behaviour, they do not realise how learning is achieved and do not themselves possess the attributes that could be accidentally taught to their offspring.

I think this is more than just accidental. There has to be a purpose to all of this and the thought is frightening. Maybe it's me being cynical, but perhaps Brexit is just a blip and the Establishment is still focused on the bigger picture. First they have to destroy before they can rebuild.

Divide and conquer. Diversion tactics while the slight of hand stuff goes on. It works for magicians. We know enough to know always someone/something wanting to hoodwinks us but will we ever get to the bottom of everything ? I doubt it but doesn't mean we can't be on the lookout.

I posted something few weeks back about private school results but you would have to say he is culpable too ? Surely there must have been some warning signs ? You know your own kids abilities, strengths & weaknesses. Sounds like he was expecting them to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Edit: Looks more suited to No.8 at Wasps possibly. Horses for courses and all that jazz.
