with reference to catching the retrace, time of day is now against me, so will have to see where this is tomorrow, will check until i go to bed later but if any there will be no big entries for an overnight trade..... it is profit taking again ATM now (on M15).

May I ask what do you make of the different types of waves we see- so I can have a strong run of single candles or I can have a wavey run of candles that bobbles up and down but it can still go for quite a distance with a trend - do you vary what you do based on these variations?

Hi Alex

Every move is different but similar and news always over-rides any and all analysis as far as I am concerned, the one bar after another is the hardest to put confident entries into as we all know it could end as quickly as it started, the ones with small few bar pull backs are easier I personally find, I will not jump on a move that has started without me noticing some clues of it prior, much is down to ‘feel’ which only comes with experience, you may notice I mainly refer to the candles as bars, for me I do not look at them as the mainstream teach anymore, I view each bar or group/set of bars as a record of buyers/sellers actions with a view from the MM’s actions and what I believe their book is doing, not oh a doji lets buy/sell here, a big clue is what fti says in his thread ‘ what did price do here last time?’ this is very relevant to the tops/bottoms of the previous swings we see, as price moves it usually leaves behind a structure reading this for me is far more accurate than trying to read ‘candles’, the bars should be read at these areas to try to get clues who has control or is it a good place to start a trade? There is nothing predictive about it just when it gets to a level I think may be of interest I watch the bars and the momentum to try to see any clues as to what may happen there, of course we may see a move in our desired direction starting to form but we can never know how long that move will last that i s why i try to read the now momentum of both parties constantly, I also read different time frames differently, the daily I mainly read bar by bar as I am trying to only trade for a few hours (one bar) to a few days max (3/4 bars), the hourly I read the bar momentum and where we are within a move and M15 or 5 I trade in the now to try to catch the waves/legs (pump) by watching the action of the ‘rest period’, sometimes I will dump all at one spot and other times I will scale out…. But I always scale in too enhance the ‘feel’ of the now move.

I try always to find a nice orderly move that I understand without news too near to it, the messy harder to read ones I have learnt to try to steer clear of.

Thanks I pretty much do same as you describe- if the wave is made up of lots of small pumps that may overlap - do you treat this any differently --- sometimes the pumps are a great size and sometimes a wave is made up of lots of smaller pumps but these can still move a long way in terms of price. I am trying to form a view on what if anything this tells me. Should I generally be more cautious on lots of smaller overlapping pumps or not and how do I attack em.

Hi Alex

been thinking about your question, i have tried explain how to roughly take a read above, but that is not what makes a good entry/timing or exit, money management is as important as timing the entry, this means being prepared for the trade to go against you as well and knowing what to do in that situation, sometimes we get it right first time and recover, other times we make a couple of mistakes then recover.... but it is the bias that makes us continue with the recovery or direction that will kill your account, i have said it before we must practice in demo our money management to destruction and back many many times to become proficient at it, there are many skills we must have including a very in depth knowledge of ourselves and when we can and we can not trade, the person who thinks they can trade everyday is fooling themselves, we all have issues that need dealing with in our own personal lives, these will affect our trade ability, when you can say after a while of looking at the charts or just getting up 'I am not up to trading today' and stick to it, you are being honest with yourself, this may for some of us go on for days in a row for different reasons, we need to trade our account as if it is all that matters as in AOW it the greater thing in what we do (the state), winning every battle in every pair is not quest, that trade profit/loss line on our account is all that matters, the more consistent a degree going up it is the better our mindset is, this should be the goal, you have it on your profile 'follow' not lead/predict, trouble is we all want to hit the top/bottom, sometimes we are lucky and get there but most of the time we are following the momentum and entering after. every trade is just another trade, some take longer than others to bring to a conclusion that is all.

ps. have you ever played blackjack? online most companies have a demo they (the dealer) have to stick at 17 or above, if you do the same then all that can make the difference is the money management, may be worth have play in demo to show you the advantage good money management can give.

Haha, funny thing Phil. I was just thinking bout this yesterday.
Everyone more or less has the same probability in blackjack, but it is the money management that makes the difference.

the sequence works well on blackjack i have found (though it takes a lot practice and nerve to get it right and with the right/fair company), you need the bottle to sometimes go deep into it, also you can give yourself a slight edge by playing the game the exact way the dealer does (the return for them is always 1.1 but for us blackjack holds 3.2, so who has then the edge?), it just takes the balls and capitalisation to run the numbers as they should be without hesitation and there are some tables out there that will allow the sequence to go very deep, but.... always remember it is a gambling game and most will falter at a certain number/amount, this is how they make their money from under capitalised or greedy people playing the game.

15 deep should make money with an honest dealer. it is good to practice on the demo's to help with a better understanding of money management. scaling seems to be the key.
