I'm browsing the petition.parliament.uk website looking at past and present petitions, some good, some funny in terms of how daft they are:

Give status to Police Dogs and Horses as 'Police Officers' (https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/168678)
Make tampons and sanitary towels free for females (https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/168391) (but what if I want tampons too?)

I've never understood the sex education in the UK and the handing out of free condoms, you get taught this stuff from a pretty young age now, and they talk about STDs and everything else - which is a good thing.

However, given that these education classes take place with people are often below the legal age, handing out condoms seems to be a bit like saying 'don't have sex but take these condoms'... i.e. slightly off message

Give it a couple of years and sex education plus free condoms will provided to girls of 9 yrs

Something for the weekend. We have issues in UK with water but not on this scale. There are only certain areas with flouride added to the water but we do have the chlorine to contend with too.

Ah yes the side they forget to mention when we are told how enriching the diversity is for our countries. Of course the moderates shriek in horror too but we all know they do nothing and in many cases behind closed doors endorse practices that western society find abhorrent.

In the beginning Chlorine was added to the water supply for two reasons: it kills bacteria, it passivates lead piping. So as a part of overall health the system worked well. Bugs in the water did not get into humans without first dying, the old lead piping used in homes 50 and more years ago did not 'leak' lead into the consumption chain ... allegedly.

Then more focus was applied to lead. It turned out that it was almost viable to collect lead by-product from roads due to the amount coming out of car exhausts. As a result lead was removed as an additive to gasoline. It was originally in there to act as a lubricant to valve-seats in internal combustion engines. A number of manufacturers (especially British engine manufacturers <sic>) complained about the re-engineering costs of switching to unleaded fuel, however Japanese engines at the time were already compatible with unleaded fuel, and the change was gradually enforced. Car engine performance took a hit too, but hey....

Recently (the last 30 years at least) water supplying systems have switched away from metal piping to plastic supply pipes (I wonder a bit if we are being poisoned with PVC plasticiser ) and houses are using either copper and brass, or plastic, for the internal piping. So the Chlorination was removed and replaced with high intensity UV sterilisation or similar. The effect of that .... has been an increase in legionella bacteria cropping up in domestic water supplies, particularly loft-tanks and anywhere that water does not 'flow', resulting in an increase in health hazards, because the water is no longer self purifying. ...Fantastic!

However .... that stuff about Fluoro-Silicon acid is horrendous.

Further to my post just above ... fire-fighters have to suit-up when dealing with vehicle fires. Turns out that the residues found in burned-out cars are toxic. The poisons can be absorbed through the skin by contact .... due to the Fluorine in some of the plastics.

Hi Ex yes modern plastic piping could be issue too, not sure if they have any BPA warnings. They are still chlorinating water in Uk though and only aware of them using portable UV units in areas where the supply had a cryptosporidium problem ?

I recently had to pay for a new loft tank to be installed because .... well it probably needed it anyway. Also there are now health practice warnings about running the water in parts of your house, particularly if the house has been empty for a few days. The most common hazard is the shower-head where water can stagnate and allow nasties to develop. Other places include flushing your cisterns.

Modern building is not using loft-tanks, except for radiator-heating expansion tanks, and those are only a problem when the tank contents do not get above (or maybe up to) 50-degrees C.

Cancer has become the new sore throat, it seems there is hardly a family it doesn't affect nowadays. Skin being the largest organ and it absorbs all kinds of crap it encounters, that coupled with methods like clever marketing of foodstuffs which should actually be waste products and dodgy water is it any wonder. In isolation I think the body can process and deal with toxins but when it is bombarded and relentless due to crappy food chain etc it just can't keep up. There is science to support that cancer is actually part of immunity in that it is a sort of encapsulating function for the toxins to give the body a chance to recover. So a radical change to clean whole foods etc can get the balance right in the body again to restore kidney/liver function to a level in which it can begin to process the cancer. Of course "Let Food By Thy Medicine" is no use to big pharma.

Yes sealed systems largely eliminated stagnation issues and run water first is sound advice. Even most heating systems which are wet sourced are pressurised now. Interested to know where you got the information regarding chlorination and UV treatment ?

A chemist with whom I 'shared an office' a while back reminded me of the basic science on lead. He also imparted that chlorination was being phased out in favour of non-additive systems although I accept that some regions are probably still chlorinating their water. Chlorine should be Ok for people to ingest in small quantities, seeing as there is already so much of it in our bodies.
