Forex; the game of movements not the game of candles.

Hi Wendigo,
Yes, I'm an Aussie and I'm trialling cTrader with IC Markets at the moment. New platform for me but I think is superior to MT4, so I have spent the last little while getting the feel of it. I also usually run the MT4 of IC markets simultaneously as well as it gives me a DDE feed to a spreadsheet that calculates lot size if I place stop 50, 75, 100 etc pips away from price, for either buy or sell. Sometimes when the MT4 is hung, the cTrader is still cranking, so that is a favourable factor to consider. Just before Trump's speech recently for instance, the MT4 was down for about 3-5 minutes before it started again. Frustrating if you are trading on it.
I have a live account with IC Markets and working very slow still getting familiar with the program further.
I had a quirk in cTrader yesterday that was certainly the software as it was occurring to the live account to the help-desk person too, I am in correspondence with them with a view to resolving the issue, and seeing what their response is to the question, and how they deal with the request for the small refund due to the quirk. I will post their response in due time. First emails seem to be a fob-off, but I have responded and asked them for better clarity on the matter. Will their customer service suck or be exemplary? We will see shortly.
Cheers.

I'm from the UK and have a live account with ICM held in Sterling £. I want to fund another new MT4 account with £1000 for another strategy. What is the cheapest way to transfer £1000 from my UK bank to my ICM account? I have looked at there funding options but am not sure of all the different hidden fees etc. Thanks in advance for any advice....

This might explain the gripe I'm having with them at the moment with cTrader. You set your choice of one-click, two-click or disable for the Quick Chart trading, for lot size and for the time, and you come back and it is all gone again. It resets to One-Click, to a lot size that I have never used it is ridiculously high, and the clock changes back to UTC 0. I thought it was an update that was defaulting back to these stupid settings. Chatted with helpdesk and they did not mention that the NY server crashing might do this upon resetting?
You experienced this?
I got caught after it reset; I had it set to two-click since I use a touch-screen Surface Pro 3, and I needed to touch the Quick-Trade section of chart to check what lot size was there. But because it reset to One-Click, as soon as I touched it, it placed an order of 240 oz of gold for me, which is way over what i do, and not a number that I have ever typed in.
I still doubt the b*llsh*t about the server constantly restarting. This is a strategy, and using this for an excuse. They have got these preset settings that automatically increases the likelihood of the traders, with settings at 2 clicks, suddenly find themselves in a trade that they did not want. They exit for the price of the spread; and who pockets that? The bucket houses that lease the program from Spotware (IC Markets say they are a true ECN and as such would not profit. CAn we believe what they say. Look at recent events with FXCM. Trust none.). But there are plenty of bucket houses using cTrader, and for this to happen on such a regular basis, is a windfall for them every day. What can the poor trader say? It is just put down to human error and that can be presented as a plausible argument so that the trader has no recourse on his losses, but in fact, it is Spotware who have decided that the default resets will be to a one-click quick trade, and that the lot size will be way over what people normally trade----and they just shrug their shoulders and say it is a quirk of the crash.....I don't believe that for a second. It is just another token of appreciation from Spotware to the bucket shops who lease the software in the hope they will stay with them and keep using the software and continue their lease with them. If they wanted they could set the defaults to disable QuickTrade altogehter and set the lot size to zero--the most innocuous scenario for the trader. But it is not the trader that Spotware has uppermost in his thinking; it is his clients--those who lease the cTrader from them. I am of the opinion that if the coding was examined by an independent umpire, the story would be found that justifies this position.

On the question of IC markets being a true ECN, read the following post:

{quote} This is from IC Markets risk disclosure. No doubt Pepperstone has a similar statement in their's. "Trading with IC Markets carries an unavoidable risk of actual conflicts of interests because IC Markets is acting as principal in its CFD and Forex Transactions with you and IC Markets sets the price of the CFDs and Forex Contracts. Also because it may be transacting with other persons, at different prices or rates, or IC Markets will be trading with market participants. The policy used by IC Markets is that as principal it issues the CFD and Forex Contracts to you based on the price it gives you, not by acting as broker to you. IC Markets obtains its price by dealing with its own Hedge Counterparty." Totally bullshit that they say in big letters on their website TRUE ECN lol

If this is correct, then IC Markets is also a gainer in any human error involved in wrong trades entered into after the local settings are reset on the cTrader (without warning to the trader of the need to reset his local settings), since they are on the opposite side of the market. It is acting opposite you "as principal it issues the CFD and Forex Contracts to you based on the price it gives you, not by acting as broker to you." IC Markets is a bucket shop!!

So, how would I set the server for cTrader to the Chinese server? On the very bottom of cTrader where it gives the time, it has next to it the proxy latency figures, and it says there that I am connected to "Sydney-6," which I understand it to mean I am connected to the Sydney server? Is it just a mirror of NY? I cannot find any other place where the server info can be access, let alone changed. Ideas needed here.

Oh, I should say, as a word of warning to readers using cTrader with IC Markets, the first thing you look at is the time on the lower right of the cTrader screen. If it is in the colour orange, and set to UTC 0, then your settings have changed. BE WARNED, BECAUSE NEITHER YOUR BROKER NOR SPOTWARE ARE GOING TO WARN YOU. You need to go in a change Quick-Trade settings first, and then check the lot size and change if needed, and then change your time. You will also need to change the volume in the New Order dialogue box too.

i haven't traded live with them yet, and was very adamant about getting a direct answer as to whether or not their live servers also get constantly shut off. of course, they said no, their live servers do not constantly shut off like their ny demo server

so i assumed that it was just a sneaky way to speed up the process of getting newbies to switch over to live, where they would inevitably lose their money to ic, not because of server outages but because of lack of trading knowledge

but now from what you say is that they are constantly shutting off their live servers as well, not good. we definitely need someone else to corroborate this. i know for a fact after 7 months using the ny demo server that it does, in fact, without warning, go offline, every day, all day, and especially at peak/news times. i do not know how they can still be operating if their live servers also did this

i was told that to switch to the chinese demo server i would need to open a new demo. not sure if this will be the same with live. i have not used ctrader btw

I've decided I will keep a log of when I have to reset the time now that I am aware of what is going on, and just see how often this occurs in a week, and a month. That way, I have real numbers to go on. If it is what I've seen while I've been watching price action, it occurs in the cTrader for just a few seconds where the positions and the QuickTrade buttons fade out with price gone, and then it returns. I think the current spread levels disappear briefly too. Will have to check that if I see it again.

I have a problem with the Trade Copier EA/cBot. On my DEMO accounts, when I give an order from MT4 it charges doble commission on the cTrader account. For example it charges 12 cents on GBPUSD instead of 6 cents(3+3). My MT4 Demo acc. is not an ECN account.

Why does it charge double commission? Is there any way to get rid of the double commission charging? And does it apply for the LIVE account on cTrader?

Thanks.
