What you said is all true no doubt about it, but the problem really is that its not on the technical aspect that makes most traders failed, its the psychological aspects of a particular trader that make it fail, back testing and demo trading results are difficult to replicate in real trading although at certain point of time you need to pass such stage but the real battle and struggle really is how you control your emotions and how discipline you will be in implementing your trading strategy during trading. Trading is simple yet most traders struggle to be profitable and failed miserably because they cannot implement discipline in their trading. Good strategy and risk management is definitely an important aspect in trading but if your mind is not in the proper order to live harmoniously with the market then a trader will fail repeatedly no matter how hard he will try.

INTRODUCTION of TRADING PSYCHOLOGY 2.0

■ Adaptability. To a person, the best traders were adaptive and flexible. They were sensitive to market environments and altered their trading to fit changing landscapes. Often, they would quickly alter their risk exposure, sensitive to occasions when market action did and did not confirm their expectations. Even more broadly, they adapted to changing market regimes by learning new skills, broadening their trading universe, and reworking their analytics. What made them successful was not merely that they possessed a trading‘‘edge.’’Rather,they had found ways of continually honing and expanding that edge.

■Creativity. The ideal for any trading firm is assembling a group of traders,each of whom delivers superior risk-adjusted returns in a relatively uncorrelated manner. Thanks to the power of diversification, that provides the business with a relatively smooth equity curve and allowsittoleverageitscapitaleffectively.WhereverI’veseensuccessful trading firms, I’ve encountered creative traders: ones who view markets uniquely, find original ways to generate ideas, and express their views in fresh ways that maximize reward relative to risk. Indeed, I would venture to say that I have never known an extraordinarily successful trader who was not extraordinarily original in his or her approach to markets. I refer to such traders as ‘‘idea factories,’’ as they develop robust routines for detecting opportunity where others see none.

■ Productivity. My experience confirms the findings of Dean Keith Simonton’s seminal work on greatness: The elite performers generate better ideas because they generate so many ideas. Their hit rate is not necessarily unusually high, but they go to bat so often that they get their share of good pitches and hit their fair share of home runs. Knowing that their strength is processing information and generating ideas—not just holding any particular idea—they are willing to toss aside less promising trades and hold out for truly exemplary ones. This productivity is readily apparent on a day-to-day, week-to-week basis: The greats simply get more done than their colleagues. They organize their time and prioritize their activities so that they are both efficient (get a lot done per unit of time) and effective (get the right things done). How much time do we typically waste as traders, staring unthinkingly at screens, chatting with people who offer little insight, and reading low-priority/information-poor emails and reports? The successful traders invariably are workhorses, not showhorses: They get their hands dirty rooting through data and make active use of well-cultivated information networks. They realize that higher-quality inputs will yield superior outputs.

■ Self-management. I can think of few vocations that blend risk and uncertainty in as immediate way as trading. In many lines of work, good enough is good enough: Slipups are rarely irreversible or fatal. In financial markets, good enough is the expected, the average; it’s not what producesoutstandingresults. Maintainingfocus,optimism,andenergy level during periods of drawdown is not easy. Nor is it easy to attend to life’s many responsibilities when focused on fast-moving markets. Successful athletes realize that only very high levels of conditioning will allow them to deliver their very best performance. For traders, the conditioning is cognitive as well as emotional. Successful traders I’ve known work as hard on themselves as on markets. They develop routines for keeping themselves in ideal states for making trading decisions, often by optimizing their lives outside of markets.

Working with traders on a full-time basis, immersed in the daily realities of trading performance, has provided me with a front-row perspective on trading success. My overarching conclusion from years of coaching effort is that what makes traders good are best practices—sound methods for deploying capital and managing risk. What makes traders great are best processes: detailed routines that turn best practices into consistent habits. Adaptability, creativity, productivity, and self management: These aren’t just things that the best traders have. They are what best traders do—routinely.
The most important review you can conduct is not one of the research literature, but of yourself. If you place your best trading under a microscope,you ’llinitiateyourownreviewandthechancesaregoodthat you’ll observe how you best adapt to change, innovate, stay productive, and manage yourself. It is difficult for us to appreciate—especially during times of drawdown—that at some times, in some ways, we already are the traders we hope to become. Our task, in markets as in life, is to uncover the practices and processes that enable us to more consistently tap into the best within us.
Very few challenges are as noble or rewarding as fully becoming who you are at your best. Let the journey begin!

What is a Trading System?

What most people think of as a trading system, I would call a trading strategy. This
would consist of eight parts:
1. a market filter
2. set up conditions
3. an entry signal
4. a worst-case stop loss
5. re-entry when it is appropriate
6. profit-taking exits
7. a position sizing algorithm, and
8. you might need multiple systems for different market conditions.

Developing a System
I am revisiting an interview I did with LTC Ken Long, a systems expert with the U.S. Army. Heres what Ken said about developing a system:
Define Who You Are: Before you conduct any planning or system design, you must have a thorough understanding of who you are and what your objectives are. Individual investors, private hedge fund managers, public mutual fund managers, and trust managers will have different dynamics, time frames, and risk profiles. This relates to system design in that the final product must fit the circumstances and

dynamics of the group or individual. If you jump into system design without considering these basics, you will sow the seeds of future problems.
Objectives: In trading system design, the problem is to define what you want the system to accomplish. With as many ideas, events, circumstances and adjustments that occur in system development, you have to have your objectives crystal clear in your mind. If you dont know where you are going, then any old road will do.
Objectives give you the basis for making choices and prioritizing actions. This is not to say that objectives are static. In fact, they can change as you discover either unexpected limitations or advantages in your system as it matures. But before you start you must have an initial set of goals and objectives to guide you.
Calibration: After the system is deployed and operational, part of the process of calibrating the system is checking to see if the objectives still fit the person or organization that you have become. Thats a very exciting part of system design. I cant tell you how often Ive been part of a design team that started with a limited set of objectives and discovered in the imagineering phase that by adjusting our sights we were able to accomplish far more for much less. But, you have to start somewhere. If you dont start with objectives, you are spinning your wheels.
I posed this question to Ken: This section is critical. How will you know if your system is working or not? What are your performance benchmarks? What are your criteria for knowing that your system is not working? How will you make decisions when these criteria are met? Will you scrap everything or just make position sizing adjustments?" All of these questions are critical to developing and operating a good trading system.


How to Make Decisions Within the System

Here’s what Ken said about this critical topic:
“If you don’t work out how you will make decisions ahead of time, then you will certainly have to sort it out at the time of the first difficult decision. If you make decisions on the spot, with no guidelines, you have two problems: 1) figuring out what to do and 2) how to do it. And these problems must be faced under great stress and limited time. It’s better to calmly sort out the decision making process ahead of time so that the decision mechanism is agreed to before hand.” “In the Army, no plan usually survives the first contact with the enemy, and so our goal in planning is to develop a range of alternatives that can apply to a number of scenarios. Through rehearsal and analysis, we know which strategy works best for a given set of conditions. The goal of strategy development is to provide the decision maker with a menu of choices that are robust enough to cover a wide range of contingencies.” “In general system development then, we look for robust, simple plans that can cover a wide range of conditions. When you preplan like this, you don’t try to force the world to adapt to your plan. If you fall in love with a strategy and become emotionally invested in m aking it work no matter what the market or the world says, you lose the ability to adapt and learn.” “A real world example for a trading system might be a trader who decides to check his actual trading performance every month against the calculated system expectancy, and determine the statistical significance of the variation. He might decide that any result greater than one or two standard deviations is a signal to stop trading and recalibrate the system or reconfirm the validity of the trading model and its underlying assumptions. If the actual expectancy is close to the predicted expectancy, then the trader knows he’s on target. In modern manufacturing systems this concept is called “Statistical Process Control.” “It lets the system controller know when the production machines are drifting out of tolerance and degrading the quality of the output to the point where the line is stopped and the machines are retooled.”

I asked Ken about how his advice applies in view of the fact that many trading systems are automated. Here’s how he responded:
“It’s a general problem of the information age, which provides us with a wide range of automated decision support systems that can compile massive amounts of data, analyze and process it, and present us with decision packages for action based on criteria that we can specify. I use a lot of these. However, the key to making them work is to make sure that you understand the underlying business model and system logic. When you do things automatically by computer, you need to understand what the computer is calculating and filtering. I won’t use power tools until I know how they work and I have mastered their use in simulations.”
“If you have done all the preparation work that you outlined in your system design workshop,4 and you have chosen indicators that provide you the right signals for making your trading decisions, then the right thing to do is to rely on the signals to make your decisions. Periodic calibration of the system, however, is still necessary to confirm that you have chosen the correct signals and that your actions are correct. If you have not done that work though, it may be the case that you simply picked up the latest hot indicator and are using it regardless of how appropriate it may be for your trading system. If it fails to work as advertised, you are likely to dump it for the next hot idea that comes along. Then you’re not a system’s trader, you are only reacting to advertising.”

Do You Really Have What It Takes to Be A Forex Trader?
Today’s trading lesson is going to revolve around one simple question: “Do you have what it takes to be a trader?” Whilst I firmly believe that anyone can learn to trade successfully if they want it bad enough, it’s also true that there are certain skills and abilities that one must be willing to develop before they can become a successful trader.
Do you have what it takes to lose like a pro?
Thats right; the very first question you need to answer honestly is are you ready to lose like a professional trader?Because you ARE going to have losing trades. So if you dont want to fully accept that fact right now then you better stop wasting your time in the markets. If you accept that you are going to lose trades, then the next step is to figure out how to deal with the losses by integrating losing into your trading planin essence you have to figure how to lose trades properly.
The key to losing properly is to make sure you manage your risk properly on every trade by never risking more money than you are prepared to lose and also by not over-trading. If you do these two things consistently you will have a much lower chance of becoming emotional after a losing trade and impulsively jumping back into the market to try and make your money back.
Traders who try to fight against losing trades by trying to avoid them, inevitably end up losing more money than those traders who man-up and take the losses like a big boy. So, if you are ready and willing to accept the fact that you are going to have losing trades, then I invite you to proceed to my next question
Do you have what it takes to have patience in the face of constant temptation?
Think about that point for a minutePatience in the face of constant temptationyes, thats essentially what successful Forex trading requires. Its like having a fully-automatic AK-47 with your finger on the trigger and only being able to shoot 4 or 5 bullets a monthmost people are going to fail at that task. So, are you ready to man-up and dig deep and refrain from firing your gun (entering the market) until a painfully obvious price action setup shows itself? Or are you just going to give in to that temptation and start shooting all your ammo away at everything you see? Your ammo is money, and I assume your money is a limited resource, so dont waste it by trading just because you want to be in a trade. Instead, you need to have the patience to wait for only high-probability trade setups that meet the criteria youve predefined in your forex trading plan. So, if you think you have what it takes to look temptation in the eye and not succumb to it, then proceed to my next question
Do you have what it takes to remain in control of your emotions?
In other wordsare you going to trade like a calm and collected professional, or are you going to give in to each emotions. In other wordsare you going to trade like a calm and collected professional, or are you going to give in to each emotional temptation like a 4 year old? That might sound a little harsh, but many traders have absolutely no emotional control in the markets, they are like drunks at the casinothat is until their money runs out. If trading is nothing else, it is the ultimate test of ones self-control and of their ability to remain objective while their money is constantly at risk of being lost. Ive said it before and Ill say it again; the easiest way to make sure your emotions do not get the best of you in the markets, is to NEVER risk more than you are comfortable with losing on ANY trade, and NEVER over-trade. Not risking more than you should is pretty self-explanatory, but not over-trading involves mastering your Forex trading strategy to the point of having NO DOUBT of what you are looking for in the markets, as well as having a Forex trading plan and trading journal that you actually use. So if you are ready to put on your big-boy pants and put an end to your emotion-fueled trading binges, then proceed to my next question
Do you have what it takes to be disciplined and organized?
Lets face it, youve made attempts to get organized and to be disciplined before, but you quickly got off track or gave up. This happens to most people, whether its in regards to going to the gym regularly, eating healthy, or trading, most people just seem to lack the internal mechanism to follow-through with being disciplined and organized. When it comes to trading, if you do not make discipline and organization a part of your daily trading routine, you open the door just a little bit wider for emotional trading to sneak in and ravage your trading account. It is up to you to do everything you can BEFORE you start trading with real money to eliminate any chance of getting possessed by the demons of emotional trading. Forging the habits of being disciplined and organized will work to reinforce positive thinking and the proper trading mindset within you, so if you think you have what it takes to become a disciplined and organized trader, proceed to my next question
Do you have what it takes to become a trader instead of a gambler?
Many traders end up gambling in the markets rather than trading. The markets can be an excellent vehicle for you to better yourself through, by learning to control your emotions and becoming a more disciplined person. However, they also offer people with addictive personalities a great place to do an immense amount of financial damage to themselves. If you have had gambling problems in the past or have an addictive personality, you need to move past these issues and develop a professional mindset and see the long-term picture, OR you will end up becoming a trading addict constantly needing a fix from the market.
Do you have what it takes to swallow your ego and not try to control the market?
Whether you want to believe that or not, its true. You cant control other traders or their reactions to news events, you cant control Ben Bernanke, and you sure as hell cant control a bank trader on the other side of the world trading position sizes that would probably make you pee your pants. Stop trying to make the market do what you want by moving your stops and targets all around after you enter a trade, unnecessarily adding to positions, and manually closing out trades only because the market moved against you a little.
Instead, learn to trade with the market and let the market structure dictate your decisions. Learn to read and trade the price action in the market and stop reading 5 different economic news websites trying to figure out whats going to happen next. Focus on reading and trading the price action on your charts and on controlling yourself, if you are ready and willing to accept that you can only control yourself in the markets, then move on to my next question, if you still think the market cares about you or that you can influence what it does in anyway, then its time to pack your bags.
Are you prepared to put in the hard work, study and practice?
have-what-it-takes Becoming a successful trader doesnt happen overnight. It takes study, time, and practice, and you arent going to just buy a trading system or trading course and then wake up the next day with piles of money next to your computer. Instead, you have to actually commit to one effective trading strategy like price action, and REALLY learn itmaster it. Dont mess around jumping from one strategy to the next; pick a strategy you like and then fall in love with it. If you have given a particular strategy or system a solid try for a period of about 6 months or more, and you arent having success with it, then move on, but dont be that guy who trades 5 different trading strategies at once thinking that they will somehow unlock the secrets of the market.
