{quote} All of us have tried, gone down the same path, the same rabbit hole, got the same result, felt the same despairing emotions. Some continue trying, some back down lower the bar, some quit, some claim scam. Are there unicorns out there ? If someone answered yes, he's called out a liar, a scammer, deluded, a billionaire richer than Warren Buffet in his dreams. It's a funny situation. Do you think it's wise to share a succesfull strategy (coded in EA) or it is better to keep it for your own use?
Ignored
Personally, I would keep it for my own use. But in reality it makes no difference either way, unless your positions are large enough to have a gravitational effect on the market (which is very unlikely for any retail trader!!). To propagate any kind of self-fulfilling prophecy, you'd need to be very large, just to gain high enough visibility. Otherwise your influence will be overrun by heavyweight activity, a significant part of which is fundamentally orchestrated.

Hanover,

"......a significant part of which is fundamentally orchestrated."

Kindly elaborate more on this point...

Have a nice day.

Thanks

So why not share it? What's the reasoning behind it?

Seems so hypocritical and I don't understand why.

Imagine: 100 people get the same signal on the same broker = liquidity issues.

Just for starters, governments, central banks, etc can make decisions that affect exchange rates, for economic reasons.

Sharing a successful strategy on a forum is like giving away your business plan to a wannabe entrepreneur in another country. What's the point? Not to mention, sharing a strategy wont be like sharing half of a chocolate bar... it would take a lot of effort and time to present to information, and even more to answer the 100s of questions that would soon follow. Like I said... what's the point? What's the incentive?

These forums are good if you can find people on a similar level to you for some give-and-take, mutually beneficial brain storming. I have been here since 10 years ago, with a large break until recently. The most interesting posts I ever found with the most promising information came from a poster called Darkstar, but even that information is no where near enough to trade profitably.

I suggest giving up on trading Forex, living your life for sometime and keeping up to date with the political and economic news. Every time you hear something you don't understand that you think is related to the markets, write it down in a list. Then, In your free time read some books or search for information online to fill in your gaps you perceive in your understanding. At the point when you feel like you understand what is going on in the politico-economic sense... then come back and try to trade again if your time and finances allow.

... but then I remember that nobody ever takes advice and I regret spending time to write this post.

Because it's generally unwise to share your intellectual property, especially if the R&D process has been time consuming or expensive. In this case, the OP was talking about a "successful strategy coded in an EA". Assuming that's a realistic scenario, then, as a programmer, when you release software, you have no control over who will eventually get to use it, or how (for example, pirates could decompile, rebadge and sell it, profiting from all of your hard work); and once released, you can never take it back. If I want to be altruistic, I could run the EA myself and donate the profits to charity; or use the EA to manage others' money without charging a fee; etc etc.

I don't think that's necessarily being hypocritical, it's just seems like sensible business practice to me. It's a greedy and corrupt world out there, and if you did actually have an EA that prints money, it would make sense to protect yourself in the most simple and obvious ways available.

Recently delegated a lot of my workload to some Filipino freelancers... so I have plenty of free time to fritter away until I get bored and guilty, and then start looking for real work to do I should have guessed you'd still be here. The funny thing about this discussion is that most of the guys here probably don't know how charitable you've been on the forum - I remember the times when you wrote a bunch of very long sticky posts.

I doubt I have anything to teach you. You must be the Wolf of Wall St after all this time

Execute your strategy for a year or two. A strategy EA that is successful today may not be successful after 2 years because the market behaviour has changed. Save your profit for rainy days...

More like the kitten of FF, LOL. Anyway, I do more lurking than anything else these days; got tired of replying to the same old topics, and trying to spend less computer time due to eye strain etc. FWIW I think you're on the money re your comments on political and economic news.

Always best to share with like minded people but sometimes sharing doesn't make a difference to how some people trade anyway.

Exactly. To make matters worse, most retail traders use market-maker brokers so their money doesn't usually get placed in the real market at all.

Hello guys, do you think it's wise to share a succesfull strategy (coded in EA) or it is better to keep it for your own use? In some logic it's OK to share with general public so more people have influence on the market. But on the other hand it's better to keep it secret and sell signals, pamm account, ... - but very hard to find investors i see now. I can't decide
Ignored

Basic logic says that if something brings profit its not advised to share it because other can brake it down But if it needs polishing or improvement or its some raw material then you can post there to work on it together.

Sharing is caring! The turtle strategy was also shared. Still works (more or less) depending on circumstances. Like others said, retail traders don't have enough weight to really make a difference in the markets so why not?

The forex trading strategies that work for professionals and which would also work for beginners, do not just cater to the trade aspect of the entire setup. Successful forex trading strategies incorporate aspects that are dependent not just on the trade itself but also on the trader.
