It cannot just happen that easy, I believe. To many traders are stick to their custom indicators, EAs and tools, and I think many would rather consider to change a broker, than their trading habits. MetaQuotes have to warn and give some time to transfer to MT5 smoothly, at least few months. Or even years, heh.

Make way for the future...I've been using MT5 since it was launched...I much prefer it. There is far more flexibility on the plaform especially when it comes to multiple time frames.

Do .ex4 files (custom EAs, indicators, scripts) run on MT5?

If not, does anybody know how much re-coding is necessary to make them compatible?
Is it generally a simple modification, or would the EA/indy/script need to be totally rewritten?

Thanks in advance.

You can't. About adapt code you have to small changes in graphic/plots API/iCustom. Orders is a huge work because is completely different ( but it's easy ). Load history have some work but resolve MT4 lack managing it. Rest is same

Lol they said this 5 years ago I doubt they will be able to make this switch fully unless they make mt4 indicators compatible with mt5 platform indicators some how. I beleive brokers will allow mt4 platform and mt5 options for some years to come.

No. When they added hedge solved the problem with MT5. If ask them about offline charts and they told me will have support in a future...

Thanks for your reply (also @braintheboss), it confirms what I've read elsewhere.

Agree with you, MT4 has been around for approx 12 years now, and there are thousands of MT4 EAs and indicators currently being run by around 20 million users worldwide, on computers and smartphones. If I have to rewrite, I will ditch MetaTrader, and find a manufacturer who provides forward-compatible trading platform/software. Don't want to find myself in the same position when MT6 comes along.

Apparently MQ no longer want to maintain/support two platforms. From what I've read, they are more focused on their app shop than anything else.

I've been trying to download MT4 from their website. It looks like you can select it, but the downloaded client is MT5!

I just quickly looked at the Freelance coding jobs posted on the mql5 website. Out of the most recent 100, 13 are for MT5. So thats 87% for MT4. A year or so ago it was probably more like 95% MT4, so MT5 is obviously gaining popularity gradually.
I think that it would be a mistake to force people to change from MT4 to MT5 as people naturally rebel and Metaquotes may find themselves losing market share.
I believe that MT4 has been a Golden Goose for Metaquotes and it seems foolish to Kill it, in my opinion.

Hello braintheboss,

How to create framework on MQL?
Can you give me some hint so I can find out about it?

Thank you.
