Please do not quote this post. I will be deleting this after a day or so, because like Verv, I don't want personal details to hang around online.

With all the focus on the forthcoming elections and the mess that is now Brexit, I want to offer a sort of antidote to maintain some perspective on life, on perhaps what is really important. Here is my story.

Well done jen101, Mother's intuition and perseverance. Typically, doctors refer to their little book relating to known side effects of pharma' treatments. The downside to this book is that the pharma' companies are the ones who provide the data for the book. I don't know about you, but I see a teeny weeny flaw in that strategy.

Not so slow jen, good scientific trial and error above to fix the problem.

I agree with you, doctors see a condition and they prescribe a drug, often with complete disregarded for the underlying cause.

Part of the problem is that doctors are prevented, probably with good reason is many cases, from making any judgement outside of the official guidelines.

But they are sometimes slow to adapt to new research, it seems obvious now that eczema is an autoimmune condition.

Glad to her she is doing better

Thanks. The sad thing is I see kids suffering, knowing it's all unnecessary. People follow doctors blindly; question nothing and the condition gets worse. I've seen adults who have had the condition since childhood. The older the person, the harder it is to treat and likely would have had a more prolonged exposure to steroids.

It is so wrong to rely on the State to make every decision for you, whether it be medical, political or social. That is where we are fast heading, a place where we have no personal accountability.

Is there a Holistic remedy for Eczema? You mention things like Milk, Wheat, and Eggs, are those foods just as adverse to adults? I guess I am asking if there is a correlation with allergies as well as contracting Eczema or psoriasis in adult years. Then there is another skin condition called Rosaisia. I ended up getting a bout of this on my elbows but it has since has gone away, so I am wondering about diet related changes.

Eczema is only a manifestation of an autoimmune malfunction, so no, there is no one remedy treats all. You have to treat the person, to balance everything, then you will find that the condition will improve. Rosacea is also an autoimmune condition, like psoriasis too. Diet would be a good place to start, though there are other causes. I believe as a healthy diet anyway, you should be avoiding to a large extent dairy and red meat as they are both inflammatory foods, as well as being carcinogenic. They both cause inflammation in the gut, which if happening on a regular basis, would cause polyps, which could turn into tumours. Probiotics would be useful to rebalance the gut flora. There is a place in California I used to order from - I can't recall the name but I can look it up - they produce high potency probiotics which can be used to treat various conditions.

I believe that humans are not really designed to drink the milk of another species, in fact nothing is! We only drink cow's milk because it is convenient. Cows are placid and produce a lot of milk. You wouldn't drink rat's milk would you? Cows milk is for baby cows. Baby cows have to get big very fast and they have little brains. Is that how you want to be? So no wonder a lot of people have problems with dairy.

Sensitivities to your environment can strike at any time. A couple of year ago my son came home from China and within a few days was up at the Chemist's buying betnovate (which is probably a hydrocortisone cream, but it works for him). The interesting thing is that he later imparted that he only suffers in the UK. From this I deduced that it is either the use of bio-washing powders or the huge volume of NOx in our air ... although China is much worse for general air pollution.

Over the years I have noticed that I react to some foods, such as wheat (Weiss-beer made me ill in the Netherlands) and my sister dumped bread from her diet and reported big changes. ...cheddar cheese ... but it is not all bad news for everybody ... the young girl up the street who used to carry an epi-pen around with her has grown out of her peanut allergy since she got into her teens. I don't know her mum well enough to ask if she went the antibiotics route at birth.

Betnovate was/is the brand name for hydrocortisone. It 'works' because it suppresses the symptoms, by inhibiting the immune system. The immune system reacts to what it deems as foreign bodies / attackers. It's like being invaded and you lock up your army so you don't get a bloodbath.

A while ago I contracted 'white spirit' poisoning, my finger-ends would dry out and then split ... it was miserable. I didn't know what it was at the time but in the course of accidentally getting cured I discovered a couple of things. First, working on my car in the summer wearing latex gloves ... my hands became rather sweaty and the gloves became rather wet inside. A couple of hours later I expected to find prune-looking fingers, but no they looked normal and rather damp. After that my finger-end problem was fixed ... go figure.

I now have one knuckle that gets agitated every now and then. I use this (http://www.eucerin.co.uk/products/urea/repair-lotion-10percent-urea) and it goes away.

There is an EU regulation for the maximum amount of pus that can be in milk. <pavement pizza icon>

There is another one for the maximum amount of rat-hair that is 'allowed' in flour.

I don't use commercial moisturisers; I make my own and that's all I use on my kids. I also make various concoctions of essential oil blends for various skin ailments and they work well on a topical level. The Chinese doctor that I used to see prescribed a herbal cream for eczema which is just amazing. It is a staple and I use it for dry skin I get on my hands or whenever the kids have any itchy patches. In fact it works for any mild skin irritations. If you want details, pm me.

Eucerin is an intense moisturiser. Urea is an active ingredient and that is very good for treating dry skin conditions. Another ingredient is paraffin, which acts like cling film on the skin, preventing it from breathing. Personally I would not use paraffin on my skin. Urea is also prevalent in your urine. It is formed from the metabolism of proteins and converted in your liver from ammonia to urea. So, pissing on your hand, then wrapping it in cling film should have the same effect.

Boy, I can tell you guys anything................................... I can have some fun here...............................
