Hi guys, i already started trading for 6 month and i really consider it as my passion. I studying mechanical engineering and should i drop it to go for quantative finance instead? Is this really nessescery if i want later a carrier as a sucessful trader in some kind of bank or fund. Thank you for your help

I am not a pro neither George Soros but from a lot of disquisitions i have read from traders talking about finance and anything that someone can study in university and also my personal experience (a couple of years).

TRADING IS ALL ABOUT SELF EDUCATION
Chart time , Fundamentals understating, physics of the market how it operates, participants. Studies will not tell you when & why you should place a trade and where to take loss or profit.

P.S. i have read a lot of stories and documentaries about Pro & Institutional Traders most of them didn't have any degree. Just Talent!

Why would you want a 'career' in trading? Basically, you are saying you still want to be a 9 to 5 slave for the Corporatocracy and make somebody else rich.

Anyone who can actually trade profitably simply works a few minutes (or maybe hours) a day from home in an exotic location with a sea view...

Good traders are mavericks who do their own thing and take orders from nobody...

The myths of successful traders working for banks and institutions come from the fact that they sell deals to clients and make a good commission - not caring whether the client makes a profit. Commissions are what makes money for big companies, not trades.

I guess forex trading is all about learning the trends and analysis which can also be learnt through practicing and that might be the reason that many traders with no degree are also successful because they have acquired the necessary experienced of making money through forex trading.

I think one should do what one is passionate about.

Everything is mathematics. Its thus in its application where its success or failures...you discover new insight during your studies in mechanical engineering, that could be applied in financial engineering...
We err, and err, and err again, but less.

There is no school that will teach you how to be the boss only how to work for a boss! There is no a certain method that applies to everyone every time to make money in any business.
