Hi, so everytime i change a template it deletes the trend-lines and sup/res lines. What is the way around this?

Save your current chart as a template before you change to another template.
No other work-around, this is your best option.
It never gets easier, you just get better

These will copy the lines and repaste them after you change templates

note: only works for trendlines and horizontal lines.
The lines may not keep their original names, please check as I wrote the scripts a while back.
Only one set can be copied at a time. If you copy another set of lines, you will only be able to paste the new set of lines.

I believe that this is happening when changing the timeframe, then test each indicator alone to discover what is causing this problem. Maybe this code " ObjectDeleteAll " is the problem.

Unless your broker is charging you for the number of charts you have open, why not stick to the obvious and just open 1 chart per template?

When you create a template in MT4 it saves:

  1. a description of the chart (including the symbol of the chart it was created from),
  2. descriptive information about the charts window,
  3. all the indicators on the chart, and
  4. all the chart objects that are on the chart (e.g objects created by the user, indicators, scripts or active EAs etc).

All in an "XML" like file. It looks like this (extract):

When you apply the template to a new chart MT4:

  1. Clears the chart of all objects
  2. Loads the template file
  3. Creates all the chart objects listed in the template file
  4. Loads all the indicators from the template file.
  5. Leaves your wondering why it had to delete the support and resistance levels you just marked out.

I learned this the hard way.

When an indicator I wrote was being used with template it would do, what I knew was, the impossible and create objects on the chart that shouldn't even exist when the it was load via the template.

The catch was that the template was loading objects from its file and creating labels and fields that the indicator didn't create or need under the right circumstances. For example if the template was created on the USDJPY and then applied to the EURUSD the indicator just ignored them because it didn't create them. So it left a pile of rubbish objects on the chart each time the template was applied to a symbol other than the one is was created from. Thanks for the info guys, i guess ill just save as a template the whole time. I think i'll also make a word doc of my other templates and indicator settings if i need to use them. I hate cluttered charts.

Another way to achieve this is to save each pair as a Profile after you have set up the templates etc.
I save each pair I trade with all the timeframes I use as a profile.
That way you can have different template, indicators and objects on each timeframe.
Another profile with all the active trades at the moment with just the timeframe that makes sense for that trade
you find that at <file/profiles/save as>
