#GBPUSD What a great day! Short @ 1.4360 / Target 1.4186 / Flat now going to do some calculation to see what next week brings, if its going higher or lower or sideways :-)

Scaling Question on MT4.

I scaled my chart according to the directions on the video above. If the candles are really long, can I use the "vertical scale" tool on the far right of my MT4 chart to reduce the size of the candles withour affecting price and time according to Gann? I am new to scaling. I would like to use a Gann fan and Gunner24 on my charts. Thanks for your patience.

forex market Gann Fan's need to be scaled at 1 pip per 1 unit of time.

For example, EURUSD, the angles need to run up at 0.0001 for every calendar day. Example, with EUR at 1.1390 as I write, an upward 1x1 Gann Fan will need to be 1.1395 in 5 days. A 2x1 Gann Fan will be at 1.1400

There are so many computer programs out there which incorrectly apply the Gann Fan technique, and this is why they do not come up with the right geometric angles.

Gann Fan divisions/multiples should only be at 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 1x4 and 1x8 (or 2x1, 3x1, 4x1 and 8x1). These are the only correct divisions to use - otherwise you will not get the correct results.

#GBPUSD Short @ 1.4236 / SL 1.4300 / C 1.4140 my calculation are telling me that pound will head down today but will pop on 4-5-16

That won't get you anywhere, try 14 pips per day (or per hour if you trade intraday) for EURUSD and EURJPY, 20 pips per day/hour for GPPUSD and GBPJPY, 10 pips per day/hour for the other majors and "almost-majors", 2.50 dollars per day/hour for Gold and 0.25/0.50 for Oil markets.
The intraday angles are per hour, not per candle - for. ex. if you draw on 1-min chart it would be 14 pips per 60 candles (EURUSD), if you draw on 5-min chart it would be 14 pips per 20 candles.
And don't use the Metatrader 4 Gann fan tool - it's f***ed up. Instead you can make up a Fibonacci fan tool with (-7; -3; -1; 0; 0.5; 0.75; 0.875) values.
At http://Gann.su there is a ~70 MB pdf with all the courses of Mr. Gann, including one extensively on angles.
@Rex123, these tips are meant for you too.
Also you may or may not scale your charts, what is important is the price/time value of the angle. Scaling charts properly will make your angle 45 degrees, but that's all - nothing else will change.

You can search the thread for the AIGannSquare tool - while it's not exactly by Gann's guidance it employs the same concept and is a nice tool for starters.

@rex123 and @kypa -I'm sure you can try running it 14 pips per da, but then it no longer becomes a Gann Angle. There is a reason why the Gann Angles need to be set to the 1x1, 2x1, 3x1, 4x1 and 8x1 levels -

1x1 = 360 degrees of the cycle / circle. Time is perfectly aligned with Price.
2x1/1x2 = 180 degrees of the cycle /circle. The 50% point - which is most important resistance
3x1/1x3 = 120 degrees of the cycle / circle (the "Triangle" within the circle, or "Trine)
4x1/1x4 = 90 degrees of the cycle / circle (the "Square" within the circle, of "Square")

As I mentioned, to use anything else no longer makes it a Gann Angle. That's not to say that a 14x1 doesn't work - it just isn't a Gann related measurement.

Those with a proper understanding of Gann will know why the above is right.

You are right, but one unit of price is not 1 pip. It should be 1 cent, but as paper money gets printed into extensive volumes and applied for speculation the main leading cycles become shorter.
Gann actually recommends backtesting and choosing a best fit if we can't calculate it (and we can't, because it takes extensive financial and physics models and supercomputers and complicated software to even get close to it).
EUR is compound currency, the follow up of ECU and German Mark (and others, but mostly these) - it's their angles which should be applied, EUR doesn't really have it's own.

I'm not totally sure about this part actually, as angles shouldn't change if shorter cycles become leading.
1 cent is 100 pips, 0.1 cent is 10 pips - which suits about every currency except EUR/* (20 pips angle is same as 10 pips except 1x1 becomes 2x1 and so on).
1 pip is one % of a cent (that's what it means actually - point in percentage).
I can't really think of actual logical reason why we should choose 1 cent, 10 pips or 1 pip.
The thing is this - if the angle "fits" all the time - it's correct, if it sometimes fits and sometimes doesn't - it's either not correct or we haven't build it from the correct top/bottom, if it never fits - it is, of course, not correct.
That's why I started with "you should try" - when you build a few hundred angles you will see the "fitting" for yourself.
Bill Williams' fractal indicator may be of help - put the indicator on the chart and drag the angle fan over every fractal mark. This way you can also find the major "lower lows" and "higher highs" from which trends actually start (they fit extremely perfectly).

I should probably explain my example.
At 9:37 - 9:40 price makes a bottom under the leading angle - it's not stepping on it for an impulse/trend, but building a range around it.
Later price reacts to the middle of this range (the same angle).

We can build the horisontal range around it, but since price is crawling up and the range-structure is part of this the horisontal lines are not the leading.
