I have wondered about the strategies of W D Gann for a while, and thought I'd finally do something about it.

Can anyone shed some light on W D Gann strategies for me? Recommended books, Mt4 indicators or EA that are writen, etc.

One of my favourite Gann rule is always buy or sell at 50% retracements from the prevailing trend. He said one could make a fortune following this rule alone

If you really want to learn the techniques of Gann, you are in for a great deal of study. It is a dangerous path for it will challenge every thought you have ever had about the markets and how they "work." But, if you are willing to put in the time, study with diligence and sift the wheat from the chaff, than you are on your way to a base of knowledge and technique that is far greater than any single school of trading thought available today. You may start your journey with the writings of Gann, himself. Lambert Gann publishing has many of his original materials available. Some will read what others have interpreted from Gann's original writings. This can be both good and bad. By word of advice, the tools that are readily available for mt4 are not worth the code in which they are written. Most have missed the essence of Gann's thought or are an interpretation (see above paragraph). If you choose to begin this journey, be forwarned, it is not any easy one. There are many perils along the way, but the end of the journey will hold great rewards. phase_1

Excellent post. I started studying Gann, Bayer, Cowan, Jenkins, etc about 2 years ago. Immediate result was blowing out. I hit my first forecast to within 2 days and a few pips from about 30 days prior. Basically got lucky and every trade after that was a disaster. My head was stuck between the esoteric and the traditional TA and it took blowing out to realize it isn't just about working out some numbers and drawing pretty pictures on the chart. It's about looking at the chart in a whole new way both visually and mentally. In my case, it took a complete life changing paradigm shift to finally "get it". With the esoteric trading it's not just numbers, but philosophy. Most people say it's just numeroligical horse sh*t as someone once said to me. It's not for everyone. And in the end trading is still about buying low selling how and minimizing losses. It doesn't take a Square of Nine to be good at it.

Anywho, I have had to take a few breaks away from trading to really study up on what the stuff means. The stuff Gann talks about is applied to trading, but has been present in history thorugh time emorrial to describe the workings and cycles of the universe from the astronomical to the sub atomic. But also cycles of human growth and understanding.

From a trading statement standpoint, I'm just getting back into it after a 6 month layoff. I"ve demoing the techniques for about a year and half and done very well. I made a stab at live trading them 6 months ago, and struggled with the pychology of live trading and needed to a break. I'm live again now after about 2 weeks of getting used to charts again. I'm keeping a blog of what I'm doing at http://4xcycletrader.blogspot.com.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but W.D. Gann was not a great trader. He died poor as your research should have revealed, and he resorted to selling his courses to supplement his income.

He also did not have a 90% hit rate in his trades, only on some trades that he revealed hit spot on, in other words, he was lucky. Ganns theory is not predictive either, simply saying the market runs in a cycle does not mean anything if you cant say when something will happen.

His methods are based on the squaring of price with time - this occurs when a unit of price equals a unit of time.

Gann for example would take a prominent high in the market, convert that dollar unit into a specified period of time and project it forward. When that time is reached, price and time are squared - and a market turn is due.

What? - How can one unit of price equal one unit of time? If you think about and answer this question for yourself, you will see how absurd the connection is.

For those of you still not convinced - I recently saw on the Internet, Gann’s trading methods selling for under $1,000!

Sounds like a bargain to get trades with 90% accuracy - I wonder how many serious money managers have it on their bookshelf.

Gann never revealed his trading technique. He made millions trading commodity and stock. If he was such a terrible trader and a "fake" why is there a life size picture of him as you walk into the New York Stock Exchange??

You tell me why there is a life size pitcure of him at the NY Exchange if he never revealed his trading strategies. Doesnt make sense why he would be admired if he never contributed anything.

what a dumb statement. so let's say person $$$, the richest most profitable person in the world, shouldn't be admired unless they CONTRIBUTE something? this is life, and no one gets out alive. last time i looked a lot of us don't live in a socialist society.

Those who don't contribute may become famous, but those who contribute are definitely admired more than the rest.
