Hakary, is this a EA backtest? If so, there is something wrong with your EAs SL and TP settings it seems. The trades are being taken at the right place (or at least the right candle) but they seem to not be exiting where they should. For example the trades taken on the 15 and 16 of March should have hit TP, but in your chart they seem to have hit the SL. Even your 14th of March trade closed one candle after it should have.

In any case, I just wanted to bring it to your attention. Load up the template BubaYaga provided and compare manually where the trades would have opened and closed.

On second thought, this is probably because of your spread. My broker gives me 4 pip spread on this pair so this would definitely cause a change in the win to lose ratio in those trades that are rather "Close". Need new broker I think

yes, it's an EA backtest.. and yes thats because of the spread.. my broker gives me 10 pip spread on CADJPY..

oh wow.....10 pips...And I thought my 4 pips were bad.

I manually backtested the month of December, and it was pretty horrible, can you backtest that with your EA and see how that goes? Or if you dont mind also, sharing the EA here would not be something I would be mad at you for

Thank you for sharing Hakary.

I tested it, and the EA for some reason opens trades on the 12GMT hour candle. It might be a broker thing though. Can you make the time it trades a input option? Perhaps this way it will fix this.

Yes, lets. We are still missing the next bit of the puzzle for the SL hits. BubaYaga said we would find out what it is once we get the first SL. I am going to take a wild guess and say its going to be Martingale strategy. From January till last week, there was no consecutive losses, so it would make sense. But December had many consecutive losses.

BubaYaga, eagerly awaiting some more details. Thanks for sharing.

I thought it's martingale strategy too.. I can add it to the EA .. with multiplier lot input option for the next position after SL hit

Wouldnt be a bad idea to try it since, at least manually, recently it has had a great success rate. But like I said, its just a assumption as to what BubaYaga has in store still.

I think why martingale approach wouldn't work is the R:R ratio in the original set up. ( which is OK as it is, the thoughts on martingale!)
After a 50 pips SL hit, even if double down, the next might recover the trade ( less commissions) or in case a second loss double the loss.
With an example, risk 2% a trade (50 pip), win 1%(25pip)....in case after a loss a martingale would risk 4% (50 pip) where gain 2% (25 pip)...IF SL hit a second time, as happened to me at few occasions on BT, then you are at -6% on the account.
Next martingale calls for 8% risk for 4% gain...say it is a win....still you are in a 2% loss from the starting point ( + costs)!

You would need the hold the last martingale position size for 2 consecutive wins too in hope to make it worthwhile.
For obvious reason semi martingale would work even worse.

What could work is a "turbo" martingale, staying with the example,
after 2x SL ...-2% + 2%=-4% down, the 3rd trade 4x size, ie risk 8% for return 4%....or to equity BE recovery ( IF WINS)
note, this skips the second martingale position, so, not 2+4+8....but vs. 2+2+4

of course these numbers - the risk of the equity/trade- need to be lowered in original positions if plan to use martingale, else it soon would be out of hand.
on the positive note, a quick 2 months manual BT on 2 pairs only gave me 2 consecutive loss any given time.

as for the spread, ICMarkets this morning ( Japanese Bank holiday) has 0.7-1 pip spread on CJ.
10 pips?! warrants an instant broker change!!
