For those who are interested to know what is the probability that the next 10 pips Renko brick would be bullish/bearish given what the previous is, here is an interesting result of probability estimation that I performed over four years of Renko bricks, EURUSD, made from real ticks.

Bullish Probability Distribution:
P(Bull|Bull) = 0.66199859
P(Bull|Bear) = 0.33447924

Bearish Probability Distribution:
P(Bear|Bear) = 0.66552076
P(Bear|Bull) = 0.33800141

Statistically it says that if we open buy/sell positions in accordance with the previous Renko brick the probability to take profit at the end of the brickis as twice as losing. Sadly, since a reverse Renko brick size is as twice as a normal Renko brick, this strategy would be breakeven!

That's why you should let the winner run for 3-4 candles and cut losses if you get an opposite candle

This probability is basically UpBar = 1-((BrickSize / (BrickSize +ReverseBrickSize))

So as a result 1-(10/(10+20))=1-0.333 = 0.6667

Which proves that the markets are random walk with a drift (as trend)....

This is just math, no historical statistics.

Renko is following the coin-toss pattern from a statistical view, there is no reason why it should not. But many have been fooled by Renko charts constructed from coarse data sets with a help of linear interpolation. Such Renko charts have higher probability of a candle placed with the trend.

You cannot blindly backtest the Renko like the cadlesticks chart, as the Renko does not meet usual candlestick rules. The most annoying thing is it relocates open on some candles, the less annoying is that it may print phantom bricks (inside gaps) and additional one is that open and close prices are pure artificial levels, which might not have happened.
If you want to get a bit closer, your EA should not work with open price (but rather with close), and your testing chart should have wicks, and should not show relocated open.
i.e for Renko it should look change that:

Ive been testing this ea for a week soon. After I shut down the two(of eight) not profitable charts gbpusd and usdjpy it starated beeing profitable..''

What frustrates me is that it goes back to 8$(80pips) profit before taking profit, instead of just going back one or two bricks before closing a trade. So even if its up at 300 pips in profit it still waits til its back at 80pips profit before it closes. Why not just implement the normal renko trade close strategy, one bar back before 8 bricks in the same direction and two bricks back after more than 8 bricks in the same direction?

Like its coded right now it makes room for a huge improvement by just manually closing out orders that are pending above 8$(80pips) at lot size 0,1

Hi tapyoung,

This EA is not trading on Renko charts. It is a trend following EA backtested on EURUSD, H1 chart. The trading idea of this EA is to add to positions at retracements where a trained Hidden Markov Model switches between Bullish, Bearish and Flat states (that is a way of market regime change detection).

If somebody is interested for my Inverse Bollinger Bands indicator.
Idea is trading Renko only outside bands - inside is great for scalping.

Hello Math,
Do you have an ea which triggers buy orders at the bid but fill them at the ask ? Im asking because when trading renko your entries need to be exact yet sometimes the widening of the spread can trigger your orders despite the bid not reaching your order level.

I am testing Renko with Heiken Ashi on different time frame charts , the one attached is on a 4hour chart, it works , nice and simple..

Has anyone else tried different time frames ?
