I wanted to know what indicator people use to help become profitable. I currently use full stochastic oscillator with bollinger bands, its a great simple set up

most power full indicator ever. try to find out it is little hard to find but when you find it it is worth of your time .

My favorite indicator is the complete ADX. The complete ADX is the DI+, DI-, ADX, and ADXR.......

What's amusing about the price action responses is that price action itself is an indicator. If you use any kind of chart, you are using an indicator!

True PA traders would use a spreadsheet only. They would be today's "tape readers".

i will explain again

there are 2 kinds of indicators :

1) service indicators:
these indies help you with certain information about the market
but not the prediction part for the price movements
like account info , market sessions , profit indies , pips counter , price display , spread value.... etc
these have no predictive value

2) prediction indicators:
these ppl use to predict possible future market movements
they are of 2 types:

a) lagging indicators :
i.e they follow the price
like moving averages , rsi , stock , macd ....etc
they either give you early false signals or late true signals " which i think wil do more harm than good "
programming and coding plays the major role here

b) leading indicators :
i.e. they predict the price correctly in advance if you know how to use them .
like price action , trendlines , channels , S/R lines , fibs , patterns ... etc
here programming & coding is useless , they are manually implemented according to your experience

note : some coded indies are thought to be leading indicators , but when you follow them closely , you will find it repainting !!!!

nothing works better than human experience and intelligence
and that comes only with close observation , monitoring and practice
thats why i always choose " the real leading indies " i mentioned above

All indicators (including price action) are lagging. To ascribe a 'leading' quality to anything is to project one's beliefs.

Indicators generally only become useful when given sufficient lag.

beleive me , we are not trying to fool you , but we are trying to guide you
so you don't waste your time just to reach same result
try to dig more on them
spend time and effort monitoring how price react to them
ask your self the right questions : when , why and how
with time you will start to observe things about price behaviour and structure
that others who use them in ordinary way can't see

beleive me my friend

i thought like that first

but when i put much effort , time and practice observing these
i found them leading
alot are using it incorrectly so they think they are not very helpful
these tools can tell you alot about : price behaviour , structure and future movements

You don't find it odd that with the methods that can be codified and tested you have little success but with the ones that are subjective and arbitrary you hold in high regard?

whats odd about it my friend !!!

i think we all have tried and noticed this big fault about coded indies
they either give
early too much false signals
or
late few true signals

and in both cases , they do more harm than good by the end of the day

i beleive these coded indies are meant to be on our charts
so to block our sight about the truth !!!
keep our minds busy with it

See, if you create a profitable and robust system using rigid yet simple indicators that are objectively defined you can confidently assume that such a system will do well in the uncertain future.

With subjective 'indicators' that are open to individual interpretation you give up the ability to perform such testing. I observe that this often leads to the process becoming polluted with confirmatory biases leading one into a false sense of confidence regarding their system.
