What percentage profit per day IS possible?

Im aiming for 2% a day hope this is resonable

you can do a lot more money in fx than in buying stocks, the reason is the high leverage.
ofcourse you could achieve the same thing buying stocks, but you would need to have a huge account in comparrision,
when trading fx, you don't need a large account to start with, you can still make money with a small account.
this makes forex more suited to small investors, and quite easy to start up.

it is impossible to say how much you can do per day, because it depends on many things
and it is very individual, such as, the profitability of your trading method,

there are so many different trading methods and all have different ,winrate, risk to reward, time to trade,
entry and sl methods, trademanagement, money management, etc etc. there is tons of factors playing in here.
and they will all affect the percentage of day you are hoping to achieve.

from asking others, you only get what they can do, that doens't mean that you can do the same, even if you have the same method and rules.

the best thing you can do is find a method you like to trade and that suite your personality, or create your own method,
back test it to see if the idea is worth forward testing in a demo account,
and calculate your percentage wins per day from there, then you have something that hopefully will hold true in a live account.

I have learned a lot about money management and risk management over the last year, and i created my own strategy , that starts with just a small amount of money, but a lot of profit per trade. believe it or not, but i do an average total profit of 60% per day. Thats possible, because i use a risk/reward of 1/3, which means i win 300% on a successful trade. I combine that with using always 33% of the available deposit, which sounds like a lot of risk, but its not, especially when you start with just 10 or 100 dollars. If i have 100$, i use 33%, which is 33$ loss if i lose, but 100$ (300% Profit, remember?) if i am successful. So whenever a trade is good, i double my money. If i lose, 77$ are left, and i would use 33% again, which is 25$, so the loss is always one third of what is available, which makes it (almost) statistically impossible, to loose all your money. If you calculate a little bit, you will learn, that if you use a risk/reward setting of 1/3, you only have to win 25% of your trades, and you would neither loose money, nor win money. If your Win ratio is higher than 25%, you will earn money. If it is lower, you will loose Money. And with a high Win Ratio of 70% or more, you can easily make 50% Profit per day. Obviously, your setting have to be 1/3 all the time, which means, it is a set and forget trade, you either win 300%, or loose 100% of that single trade. There is a lot more to this Money Management Strategy, but i was able to trade that way very very successfully.

What brokers offer 400:1? thought 50:1 was the highest?

Having a target percentage each day will lead to bad decisions. It will cause you to force trades in an effort to make your target. Whatever the market gives you is whatever the market gives. If the market is trending and moving well then you can make a really good return on your trades. Other times when the market is in a bad mood you would do well to get out with a break even or a small loss. Focus on good entries and even better exits. The percentage return will take care of itself.

What you consider a "reasonable" risk depends on the type of trader you are so you need to match that risk to what you feel comfortable losing on a bad trade. And when I say you must be comfortable with losing that amount, you really must be comfortable in losing that amount. The biggest problem with forex is the perceived available profit just sitting out there waiting on some genius to come along and claim it. This tends to lead to a casino or lottery mentality for many traders. If you notice most traders talk about their trades in win or loss terms. "I won this much trading", "I lost this much trading" etc. When I see people post statements like that or say those things when they talk to me, immediately I think that this person isn't investing they are gambling.

I have seen people more than double accounts in a single day and I have even seen someone take a 1K account and peak at over 1 Million in less than 2 months only to watch them crash and burn when the trending market that gave them all of that return stopped and went into a choppy mode. Because their trading style required a trending market that million dollar account went into margin call just 2 weeks later. That person told me a few months ago that they had considered suicide 3 different times after that happened. He hasn't been able to trade since. Fear rules his thought process when trading and that keeps him from making any trades. For him, trading is no longer an option as an income source.

Massive returns are available in FOREX but with great returns great risks also follow. While you can certainly gamble away and hope you win and get out before you are broke again or you can invest with just 2% risk and about 20 pips a day and take 1K to 1 million in about 9 years (not including taxes of course). The speed at which it happens isn't the real reward. Best part is that when you get there, you are a very consistent trader and instead of just a flash in the pan 1 million you now make about that much each year, still only risking 2% and looking for about 20 pips a day average.

50:1 is only in the US. Most other countries allow the 400:1 or even more. It used to be that way here but crybaby whiners who couldn't tell the difference between leverage and risk caused a rule change for us. Just because you CAN buy 2 standard lots on a 1K account doesn't mean you SHOULD. LOL!

Having a target means that you have a "goal" I dont think that is bad, but YES, you have to take what the market is giving you. I am new to Forex but have experience with stocks. These charts have a different personality but I am doing ok. My goal is 25% a week and im getting 20ish by NOT being greedy. When my runs look like they are running out of energy I get out. If a trade looked good but after entering looks bad, I get out and move along. That is the best that anyone can do in this business. I still have some emotions I am trying to get over.

That is a good point, i made that mistake years ago xD I tried to reach a specific target every day. Was not possible for me, now i only take the A+++ Trades, and end up with 1 or 2 trades per week on the 1 hour TF. It does not sound like much, but at the end of the month, the profit is between 50 and 60% Profit per day, if i divide the total profit between 20 trading days.

4% is quite close to equity/25-30. I have tried to think where this number comes from...

25 is 50/2 .. and 50 is the leverage at some places
30 is a number I heard on documentary about commodities hedging/trading.

Some sources mention banks leverage but I think that was 40?

Also note how when volatility goes up, margin requirements go up. There is a connection between this all.

As some have said it's fairly easy to average a high return on a small account. The larger the account gets, the more psychology becomes a factor. It becomes harder to make rational decisions, ward off greed and excitement. This is why a strategy that works on a small account won't usually work on a larger one.

There is also leverage to take into account. As you build up capital, you want to lower your risk of ruin. To do that, one of the things you do is reduce leverage. The 10% a month you achieved with 20:1 now becomes a quarter of that with 5:1 and most likely less when you account for a more conservative overall strategy.

What percentage profit per day IS possible?

The answer, of course, is that anything IS possible.

But a better question might be-

What percentage of profit per day can I expect considering these factors:

1. Experience level
2. Account size
3. Hours spent trading
4. Trading style
5. Risk parameters
6. Seasonal factors

The list above is not meant to be exhaustive, but should serve as a reasonable jump-off point.

I would say investing and gambling are exactly the same thing, betting money on an outcome to get more money out of it. Of course someone with a lower return per time frame will call anyone who makes more money quicker an evil "speculator" while he himself is investing. Again same thing, throw money at a situation, hoping to get more out of it.

Making fixed profit is quite impossible from this market. If you can minimize your risks you can make a huge money from this market. So make a good trading plan to make consistent profit from this market.

My target is around this ratio. I have proved myself my rules and trading plan to gain this target after using of 15years, finance and energy.

It primarily depends on your skills and knowledge in trading.
I tend to contemplate like that:
- For rookies, it's okay to have at least a couple of closed trades in plus per day, as they ought to concentrate more on their mistakes to learn from them.
- For mid-traders, who have been trading for a certain period but arn't proficient yet, 10% to the depo per day is a good indicator.
- For advanced traders, 20% and more is a cool indicators as well. But, expert tends to overthink because of big knowledge base in the field, and oftentimes they overestimate their skills.

a prudent result for consistency is 3% a month. i know its low, but that is the minimum one should aim for. And once you've done that, 3% a month is a big thing. Then you just keep on increasing from 3% to 4% then 5% and so on.

Don't look at a long term view.

Yeah, this is super interesting. Back in the tech boom, traders had a big edge…things like easier shorting, slower markets, less competition made huge gains easier. Forex now is way more competitive, so making big consistent returns is tougher.
About that 4% a day idea, sure, it might happen sometimes during strong volatility, but doing it every day long-term? Probably not realistic. Most good traders just focus on being consistent and managing risk.
I do like the mindset of tracking thousands of trades though. If a strategy can survive hundreds or thousands of real trades while sticking to risk rules, that’s when you really know it works.

Interesting to visit these old threads to see how markets have changed in 15 years. If at this time period 4% looked unreal, now it will be even more unreal. I give up on trading forex because of this. Majors simply don’t move enough to benefit from their moves intraday.
I found my edge in trading futures, nasdaq and sp500. Now they seem not doing great, but in good months 4% per day was more than possible. Don’t even need to look at other markets. Feel like this is the most balanced in terms of risks and volatility.

somehow agree Forex majors just don’t give enough intraday movement anymore. Futures like NASDAQ and S&P really let you capitalize on volatility while keeping risk manageable. When you find a market that fits your edge, it makes all the difference
