Hey Guys

How do you adjust the leverage for the backtests? I'm currently using Alpari Demo as my only account using 500:1 leverage. When looking at the backtests, i'm noticing the margin used equivalent to 100:1 leverage.

Wow that was a long thread which I just read from start to finish. Took a couple of days. My interest was raised by the title and also having a strong interest in grid & martingale systems myself. Like a lot of others here, I've done plenty of research, blown accounts and had brokers shut me down for various reasons.

These types of systems can work but money management is critical. After reading all of the posts I'm amazed that some posters are trading these beasts from accounts under $5K, with a few under $500, and using a starting position size of 0.1 lot. It ain't going to work. You may have some initial success, but it won't last. Also before you ask the same questions over and over again, may I suggest you read the very first post for the logic on how the original EA works. Everything else since has been built around this same exact logic with just a few bells and whistles added.

I'd also like to comment on back testing and demo testing. It has its place but not for an EA like this. The results are just too inconsistent. Also keep in mind that a demo account works on exact numbers where every order is filled at the exact price. Every time. Now a real account involves possible slippage, misquotes and possible broker intervention. Big news will move a market fast and orders will be missed. Spreads will widen which may inadvertently get you into a trade that you would not normally enter. Live trading is the only way to really evaluate it properly.

Now I do trade grid & martingale systems live just about every day, but I am a full time trader and can watch them like a hawk. I also use other more traditional EAs that hedge trades going against me. Everything is set up to be be managed automatically if for some reason I can't be present, but having said that, I make a point of being in a position to manually manage my trades. It is by far the easiest way to control things.

Even if you took the original EA on this thread and just added it your chart when you identified a new trend beginning and then just let it run for one cycle, you would do pretty well. Again read the first post where the grid and number of levels is discussed. If things go against you and you are not comfortable, then manually close out the basket of open trades. Your account will live to trade another day.

A lot of traders here have to realise that you don't need huge position sizes to make decent profit. It just isn't necessary. I use to trade 0.1 lots on approx $50K total and that has since been brought down to the 0.02 lot level. I sleep well at night and have very little chance of blowing up accounts these days. Mind you, I can have a lot of trades open at once and I am just about always in constant drawdown on a couple of accounts. But it pays the bills and that's what counts.

i used to have the same problem it seems that you use Ecn account with market excution may be you need to use an account with instant execution it is very profitable with 3 pips setting also make sure that the broker allow unlimited number of open orders in real accounts leverage is minimum 1:500 more is better i am using a leverage of 1:2000 it works very good good with my broker i tired other not so good.

Thanks for your sharing, can you recommend us a Grid system without and EA to start testing. I'm very interested in Hedging and Grid sytems.

This little EA prints money like crazy BUT:​

  1. It seems like the brokers interfere massively with it
  2. It gives 15 winning trades and then all of a sudden something goes wrong in the background. It seems like pending orders gets triggered even though the price did not trade at that level , thereby resulting in huge losses

I have no doubt in my mind that there is broker interference.....
I trade the DAX with it with certain settings and it is IMPOSSIBLE to loose IF the EA works perfect or/if the broker does not interfere
If the issue can be fixed this EA will be a killer...

I am not a big fan of EA's and nor am I a coder. I do not trust EA's and will not buy one. I have also not seen one which is profitable consistently.
However this concept of the money grid martingale is definitely profitable.
This EA needs an overhaul and should be perfect for printing money.
I have not had a losing day with it, BUT certain issues MUST be addressed before I will go live with it.

Specifically what issues? If you post EA source here I will fix and repost for testing.

$180.63 dollars in one and a half hours so far..
I had two offers from traders /coders to fix what I think is a problem in this EA. So far they have not come back to me...
I am prepared to share my settings for this EA IF a coder works with me in sorting out the issues.
This EA is a winner no doubt.
$191.51 and still making money....

The EA just now ran into a problem because there were too many orders open. Not a margin call issue.
It seems as if the platform cannot handle this. This is something which can be fixed by proper coding....
