Top trade idea for November 3rd , 2015 – USD/CHF

USDCHF has been moving sideways since end of March. We see five price swings between two trendlines that reminds us on a triangle formation. That’s an A-B-C-D-E pattern that occurs in the direction of a trend, so it’s a continuation formation that suggests more upside for USDCHF. In fact this bullish trend continuation is already here now after recent bounce from 0.9470 and above the upper resistance line and wave D swing high. Move from the last two weeks is also sharp, so we see 1.0000 coming, but then even 1.0300-1.0400 in months ahead.

For USD/JPY traders, it’s been a particularly trying two and a half months. Since late August, the pair has carved out a tight 300-pip range between 118.50 and 121.50, never closing beyond this zone despite central bank decisions on both sides of the Pacific, a series of disappointing US jobs reports, and a raft of other economic data. Already today, traders have received the latest readings on the US labor market from ADP (+182k jobs in October, in-line with the 183k jobs expected) and ISM Non-Manufacturing PMI (59.1, better than the 56.6 reading anticipated).

Back to the audusd pair as, while this is a relative small time frame, it has the power of coming after a triple zigzag to the downside on the daily chart and the move that followed seems to be an impulsive move on its own. Because of the retracement level after the first wave in green is too much into its territory, it means that the second wave of the same degree, green, will be a running correction and this calls for a bullish move to come if and only if the 0.7210 level is broken as this means market formed a flat pattern only for the first part of a complex correction to follow.

Much like yesterday afternoon, it has been a relatively quiet day in the FX markets due to the lack of any significant Eurozone or US data, and as North American banks are closed in observance of Veterans Day. But luckily, we’ve had some important employment data from the UK which caused a bit of volatility in the pound. Although wage growth was slightly weaker than expected, the jobs figures were eye catching nonetheless for the unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level since 2008 while the employment rate hit its highest level since records began in 1971. As a result, the pound initially dropped before recovering all of its post-data losses.

Despite the general belief that the eurusd is going to parity and below I would like to take my chances on a small bounce and while the risk-reward ratio is not that attractive here, there is still a temporary bottom that may form. The pair is coming down in a five wave structure on the hourly chart and this means that the whole move from 1.1450 all the way to below 1.07 is nothing but a zigzag and these kind of zigzags are retrace more than our target.

After Monday’s big dollar-bullish move, the foreign exchange market has been relatively mixed over the last 48 hours, not coincidentally mirroring the uncertainty traders are feeling toward future Federal Reserve policy. The widely-watched EUR/USD pairing fell to a fresh 7-month low in the mid-1.0600s before bouncing modestly today, while other European currencies, as well as the commodity dollars, were steadier. Thankfully, today’s release of the minutes from the October Fed meeting could go a long way toward ameliorating traders’ uncertainty about monetary policy.

A decline from 125.80 to 116.15 was made in three waves, so we think that pullback from the last few months was nothing else than just another correction within ongoing uptrend that is in play already since 2012. In fact, reversal up from 116, at the end of August, was sharp so it belongs to a minimum three wave rise, that is now in play. So actually move could be only temporary and corrective A-B-C recovery, but ideally we will see an impulsive rally up into wave five that will be targeting new highs by the end of the year.
