Very important and valid questions that you are asking.

I missed trading today with the Q method on the M1 TF chart so I took no trades (did place a couple of other non-Q related mid term trades though) .... been out on other business most of the day!

I will check the charts later though for EURGBP and EURCHF to see how they would have turned out.

DD would need to be determined on a case by case basis (balance and lot size per trade over the entire cycle).

You could get a general idea by running the EURGBP and the EURCHF pairs through the MT4 strategy tester over the last few days/weeks etc for the trading window I apply currently which is usually Tokyo Open through to Tokyo + 5 hours and then close out trades on that final cycle. You could then look at some of my posts and for the EURGBP and EURChf pairs on given days to see what values I applied for Quantum and then look at my cycles of trades especially the ones that are closed off early.... the others that are closed off as per Q exit should be easy enough to work out.

The DD would need to consider account balance and lot sizing considerations so it presents a slight problem in that I do not trade 0.01 lots per 10K balance but rather much higher than this..........

It might be useful to start with 0.01 per 10K for the 5 hours I trade the M1 TF and then run it through the strategy tester with increasing lot size progression so you can see how the DD changes.

I'm very happy with the DD I experience for how I trade but I always look at ways to minimize the DD as much as possible which can be a tricky business in this Q method since DD is at its core.

If there are certain cycles of my trades posted that have been manually closed out and for which you are unsure of the close prices then either ask me here or PM me and I'll send you the open and close prices for any of my trades posted. This is probably more important for those cycles of trades that were not closed out by Q.

Note: I do alter the lot sizes and lot progressions that I apply on a daily basis too including lot size applied per pair which also may vary depending on the trading day, risk of pending news floating around etc. Usually lot sizes are highest on Tues and Wed with Monday, Thurs and Fri lower.

Hope that helps a bit and yes I know it means you need to do some work to find an answer but I see no real point in stating my DD since it actually varies on a day to day basis due to ranges and entries and lot sizes applied.

One way to overcome some of the doubt might be to use a TE or a myfxbook then it will be reasonably clear.

I'll consider this option as soon as I've spent several more weeks getting to the final strategy.

Agree with everything you say, sans the EurChf trades. SNB frightens me pants off!

FWIW, Everything else makes great sense to me. As per your basics, I traded GU During Asia yesterday. Waited 1hr 40m for 1st entry. Then 2 more entries, over the next hour. Then finally got opposite signal 3hrs after 1st entry, for a whopping 10.5 pips. How I remained awake, I'll never know. The point is that trading Q is not normally a jump in, jump out proposition, but great patience training.

I don't take all entries, only calculated entries based on s/r and some gap between entries. Never inferior entries. GU had Resistance area @ 1.5438 that I thought would hold. So my 1st entry was @ 1.5428.


My apologies for screen shot. I do my trading on Oanda's proprietary platform, and don't know how to make trades show up. So I drew it on MT4 platform.


My 1st entry was BE. The distance from highest trade to exit is only 8 pips with a 2 pip spread, leaving me 6 on biggest win.

Rules are simple
After CCI hits 350 level we need to wait for signal BUT! make a trade ONLY when price touch centered envelope line!

Hi Dimdel.....

There is 114 pages of this thread.....

If you look well....... many people have shared so many things including indicators..... and mer's have no complaint about it.

I guess the main thing is not to change anything in his system......that is bringing something totally different into his thread.

But as far as it is something to compliment or improve his system .....then it is ok.

This is basically a Sharing forum.

I stand to be corrected though.......

I have worked with this indicator a year back and it is a pretty interesting concept to work with. The first time this indicator emerged in the forum it was known as swing spot and it have spend a considerable amount of time tweaking the input settings or the exit criteria using all sorts of combinations incorporated cci, bbands standard deviation, moving averages, stochastic or used a different period swing spot to mark the exit. It was rather an entertaining and educational task rather than a serious approach to create a tradable ea.

I have created several EA's which ran backtests on years of data profitably reaching the 100% profit a few times, ergo this can be a profitable system but I don't believe it to be the stable system I am looking for and it didn't fit the criteria to be included in my portfolio. Here come a few insights I have gained.

  1. The concept works well under normal market conditions, but there will come a time where the market strongly trends and you will accumulate a massive basket of positions against you which will melt away an enormous amount of profits. (On a grand scale this happened every other year after reaching 100% profit but withdrawing money to start over again prevents compounding).
  2. You scale in against the established trend. Every time the market moves higher you add another short. Follow the trend is something you hear a lot and you are doing exactly the opposite. This will be the death of the account sooner or later.
  3. The later the position you enter the more profit this particular trade will yield. That is the reason for increasing the lot size and if we would know how many trades we enter we could calculate it. But at the beginning of a pyramid this is unknown. -> It is highly important to cut out the early signals we get. Cutting out a fixed amount of signals will not accomplish much look for a measurement of an established or exhausted trend.
  4. An interesting approach is to trade the exact opposite. Scale into the trend the time we move with the market. This will reverse the point before making the first trade the most profitable meaning we can start with a maximum amount of lots and decrease the position as the time moves on.
  5. For the sake of good the biggest mistake I see while people create trading systems is tweaking the settings. Hey either it works or it doesn't but over fitting a system to work during a certain time does not lead the system to be profitable. If you avoid the one big draw down in the past the next one will hit you if you use CCI 200 or CCI 400.
  6. Money management is key in this type of pyramid. Instead of focusing on indicators and entries you might want to spend a bit of time looking into it.
  7. Take the trades not based on mechanical indicators but try to incorporate support and resistance zones. This should give you an edge. A rather huge amount of money is needed in regard to the traded lot size to maintain all positions.
  8. Take a look at news. Either avoid them or use them for your advantage but they will screw up the calculation of the ZZ.


While this is an interesting approach and it's on my to do list of "I will look at it again once I want to play around with concepts (not concerned about the act of actually earning money in a reasonable way)" I don't believe it is suited as a main trading system which should focus on steady gains and controlled risk.

Trading is a mugs game at best. Doing research can provide some gems. Without the research, it's like shooting fish in a barrel, For the Broker.

It's great to see some people working on this concept as there lays value in buying low and selling high which is exactly the approach we are taking here. I have not read the thread or the ea thread in the platform tech sub forum but by judging of the activity you have all moved to the state to throw concepts around and implement random filters without reasoning about it. Based on past experience this will most likely lead to the idea being discarded in the near future. Guys come back and theory crafting first maybe some insights can be gained. (a fundamental approach like implementing sentiment anyone?) Sentiment has been a great tool besides news trading for myself and I found it highly reliable. I would applaud someone to think about hybrid approaches for once instead of all the technical filters.
